Hello,
I'm now a 10th grade student in europe and i plan to go study to the U.S. Will universities look into my 9,10 grade marks ?

Yes. That’s two-thirds of your transcript at the time you apply to college. Past grades are very important.

Agreed. It also depends on the school. A more selective college will certainly look at those grades. A less selective college will understand more if you “messed up” freshmen or sophomore year, but will still look for a more challenging course load Junior and Senior year if that is the case.

Happy Elections Day! Looks like you’re going to get a totally new Parliament!

Most schools will look at all your schools results from grade 9 on. Some may not take your 9th grade (Year 10 in the UK) into consideration (but WILL look at yout GCSE’s no matter what, again, if you’re in the UK) - the UCs, the CSUs, Princeton, there are a few more that others will list or you can start a thread titled “schools that don’t look at 9th grade results” Some schools will not look at 12th grade results except to check you didn’t get D’s or F’s by year’s end, and most will only look at your midyear record.

To many universities, 9th grade does not matter much, but 10th grade definitely does.

Most schools use “holistic” admissions. So yes, they will look at it. It also means they will look into your entire transcript, noting things such as an upward trend, difficulty of classes, and extracurriculars and essays. While I would not say they would value 9th and 10th grade as much as 11th or 12th, they are still part of your overall record and should be taken seriously. That said, if your 9th and 10th marks sucked, do your best the next two years and show them the improvement.
