Does a UCLA likely mean a good chance at Berkeley??

Hey!

I'm really scared for Berkeley (one of my top-choices). Just want to know whether I should be hopeful or not. (It hurts more to be rejected when you're expecting an acceptance.) I got a likely letter from UCLA for Comp. Sci. and Engineering as an international in spite of the fact that me essay had the word "Berkeley" in it- TWICE! (I did not really intend to apply to UCLA but ended up making the decision 3 minutes before the deadline!!). Does that reflect I'm a strong applicant. Please don't be mean and call me a joke/troll or whatever. I'm just a paranoid international kid who's sad cuz MIT didn't want him (and now he really wants Berkeley!!)

Yours Panicking-ly,
100%Tuna

(Panicky fish don't taste good!!) :(

PS: Second question- Which university is better for Comp Sci and Engineering? The rankings say Berkeley, but I've seen that some people prefer UCLA for science and engineering.

Thanks a lot everyone- and best of luck for results!! (:

Berkeley all the way...
Same here, intl, UCLA likely, accepted by UCLA, waiting for Berkeley...
except that i didn't mention Berkeley in my essays...

@bzsc01: NICE! so it's not a really exclusive group (the international likely people!) OR maybe we're both part of the exclusive group! :D
(I'd like to feel happier and believe in the latter!)

Oh- and what a coincidence, I'm a scholar (came for JC) to Singapore too!! What JC were you in? Nice to know other Singaporeans/Singapore-students here! Haha! And if you don't mind sharing, where all did you apply? :)

@Others: C'mon please reply, guys! We don't want the tuna-guy to die of heart-attack and get smelly-fish, do we now? Please reply, yeah? Thanks in anticipation! :)

LOL... I was from HCI... I think plenty of ppl from my sch are in the same situation as us though... btw i also participated in the Virtual Business Challenge two years ago...
But to be honest, i never applied to any safety school in US, all my choices are reach/super reach... my safety is NUS (Natl U of Singapore for the benefit of fellow CCers) lol
So i guess u applied for Berkeley EECS... Oh my... i just got a super rival here... But who knows we may just both got in! Cheers whatever the outcome would be!

Anyways, I applied for Harvard Princeton Cornell Berkeley and UCLA. I'll choose Berkeley over Cornell if i'm lucky enough to get accepeted by both. I consider myself essentially hopeless for H&P.

I would say a likely at UCLA gives you a good shot at Berkeley as well. However, engineering at Berkeley is very competitive for admissions, probably more so than LA. Good luck!

Hi,
What about physics? Is it really competitive too? I am accepted to UCLA and waiting for Berkeley(Also int'l).Do you think I have a decent shot?

If you were accepted at UCLA you have a decent shot at UCB and vice versa but of course, not guaranteed. My D was accepted to UCB EECS and UCLA engineering and chose to go to UCLA but both schools have a similar pool of applicants to choose from and the accepted students have similar stats.

You'll just have to wait and see how it goes.
