Does a UCLA Rejection = Longshot for UCB

If one is rejected from UCLA, does this immediately equate to a longshot UCB acceptance? I have tried searching without much luck for a recent comparison of the two's evaluation processes.

Major: Political Science
All but one UCB-only Pre-req complete
EC: Very Strong
Personal Statement: Very Strong

If you could refrain from GPA-related assessments. I didn't post mine because I'm interested in hearing how they assess outside of grade trending and GPA. I'm on the lower end but still competitive GPA.

Input appreciated.

It think they have different standards when choosing applicants. At least I hope so as I was just rejected from UCLA.

if you are very strong , you got some serious shot here

UCLA admits applicants primarily based on numbers/statistics. Cal is known for having a more holistic applicant review process (i.e. personal statements and extracurriculars carry as much weight as GPA and pre-requisite/IGETC completion).

^hell no its not. if it were, then a 4.0 with all preq would have made it in rather than a 3.65 with 1 missing preq.

Different standards, had multiple friends who were rejected from Berkeley but in LA and some rejected from LA but accepted from Berkeley. But the latter is rarer than the former.

I was hoping that they would weigh the PS and ECs more than UCLA.

For UCLA, what is the purpose of the PS if they don’t utilize it as any major element of the application process?

They both have different standards, as with the rest of the UCs, but UCLA is not number based/biased.

I hate that myth: If you get into UCLA you won’t get into Cal, not true. I was accepted into both. |:

forthefunofit, you and I are in the same boat, same major, same sort of deal. I’m hoping my upward grade trend, PS, and challenges will look good in the eyes of Cal, but we’ll find out in 3 days, won’t we? I’m just relaxing, accepting my fate, whatever it may be. I suggest you do the same, and perhaps get an appeal ready, just in case ;)

Cal
50%GPA, Course load, Prereqs, etc.
35% Personal Statement
15% Resume

I’m guessing UCLA is like 80-20 when it comes to Grades vs PSs/ECs

You’re looking at Haas, which I’m sure has much different standards…right?

I say Cal is 50% GPA, pre-reqs, course load, grade trends
50 percent Personal statement, EC’s

I say UCLA is 80% GPA, pre-reqs, course load, grade trends
20 percent Personal statement, EC’s

I got into UCLA with one C, and two B’s

Sorry for the newbie question but SATs are included in the pre request category correct?

@forthefunofit

I would think that the L&S is even more lenient with Grades and GPA,etc. Haas is perhaps one of the hardest programs to get into California so if the standards are like the ones i showed for such a exclusive program, I would assume their L&S standards would be lower.

I could just be making an ad-hominem and basing a conclusion on a purely un-relying source (my anxiety drivin mind)

^ I see where you’re coming from.

L&S is eligible for Spring Admission correct?

I too am extremely interested in their side-by-side evaluation processes.

Anymore insight?
