Does age really matter (transfer)?

I am 20 years old and plan on beginning my first semester of full-time college coursework in the Fall '07. This would mean if I successfully did apply and transfer into UCB as a junior level transfer I would be 23 years old (I turn 21 in April '07). I feel like I would be a little bit older than most of the other undergrad students since a majority entered right out of high school around 18 or 19 years old. How will it be for me to fit in around campus with other undergrads? Am I just blowing this whole age thing out of proportion? I mean, it is only 2-3 years; it's not that big of a gap I guess, am I right?

*The reason I'm applying so late is because I've spent a good portion of the last 2.5 years since graduating from high school working and traveling.

Yeah, it's not that big of a gap. You could hang out with other transfers who are 20-21. There are a decent amount of transfers older than 20.

Don't worry about it. A couple of people that I know of are ~26/27 year-old transfers.

are you kidding?

there is a student at berkeley right now in his later 70's

they admit all kinds of ages all over the map...as long as you are competitive as an individual applicant. your age doesn't matter

astro30,

Also, there is a large graduate student population at CAL.

You may also want to consider living in a co-op as there is an age range living there; it will give you a communal living experience (ala' dorms) but is more suitable for an older student

yah the dorms are rediculous, trying to drink a beer in your dorm is like digging a tunnel out of a POW camp
