my DD is going to apply to alabama for sure.

does anyone know if they offer and preferred apps? like with no fee etc.

their app is pretty easy anyway. i don't think an essay is even required, but i could be mistaken.

if we can save an app fee, that would be better than a poke in the eye.

also, same question for arkansas, south carolina, clemson, auburn.

I just noticed that Furman waives the $50 application fee for online applicants.

When S1 applied to South Carolina (2004), the app. fee was waived for applicants with SAT above 1300…may have changed in the last five years.

Call the office of admissions, but I do not believe there is a fee waiver at Alabama. There is a $5 discount for applying online, so it runs just $30. Considering there is no essay, and if you apply early (October or so), you get a quick answer, the fee is not too bad at all.

yes, i agree the fee is small, but i thought it would be good to check and see if there were any fee waivers available.

: )

so when you apply, you just fill out the online app and then the schools communicate with each other for the rest of the stuff? (transcript etc.)

^^The student (not the college) is responsible for requesting that the transcript, recs and test scores are sent to the college. It is then a good idea to follow up and make sure they are received. Many colleges will have a way to track items received online. Contact your HS for their policies on submitting apps as each HS may do things differently. Good luck.

Because Alabama has rolling admissions, it is a good idea to apply early, because you get a quicker decision. My son applied on a Sunday night in mid-October. He had his admissions package a week later. Got his scholarship information about two weeks after that. His friends applied later, so they had to wait longer.

Right, my S applied to a rolling admissions state school (in NC) in early Oct. He got his acceptance letter in the first week of Nov. His friend applied later when the majority of the apps. were pouring in and and it took over twice as long for him to hear back.
