I'm going to an information session and it is said that there would be a long Q&A session.
I thought it would be cool to collect ideas and share information on the forum if I get them answered.

You might ask a common CC question:
Does NU convert weighted GPA’s to unweighted in determining the admitted GPA scores.
or
How important is class rank? What if the HS doesn’t rank?
Thanks for posing questions to the AO office that might help other NU applicants.

Another question that comes up here all the time: two SAT II’s or three? A few years ago when my son called NU admissions and asked, he was told that his application would not be negatively impacted at all as a result of only having two SAT II’s. It would be good to refresh that info for today’s applicants.

@APOL, I emailed the NU admissions office concerning the W/UW GPA. This was the reply I was given:

"Thank you for your interest in Northwestern. Northwestern does not calculate GPA; it only looks at the statistic if it is provided by the student’s high school. Questions regarding whether your seventh semester grades count towards your cumulative GPA should be directed towards your high school. There are GPA no cutoffs or benchmarks that applicants must meet to qualify for admission. It is just one of many factors which the Admissions Committee evaluates in the application process and many schools do not even provide us with one.

Please let me know if you have any other questions."

The second part of the reply was adressed to a seperate question, but from the first part of the answer, I think it’s safe to assume that they don’t recalculate a student’s weighted GPA. I could have misinterpreted the response, so if you hear otherwise at the Q&A session, please let me know! (:

“How important is class rank? What if the HS doesn’t rank?”
AO says: It does not matter if high school does not rank, but would be considered a part of the applicant’s academic capability if high school does provide rankings.

“he was told that his application would not be negatively impacted at all as a result of only having two SAT II’s”
AO gave pratically said the exact same thing.

Is there a pre med program at Northwestern and if there is, how does it compare to some other schools?

^^All good schools have “pre med” curricula, and NU is no exception. It has lots of premeds who do very well in terms of med school admission. NU is just an excellent school. Period.
Pick your school based on which school feels like the best fit for you, rather than on some notion about how different schools’ “pre med progams” “compare.” It’s a false premise.
