ive been searching for detailed info about nyu-shanghai but cannot find any..i guess its cuz shanghai campus isn't as popular as florence or london :(

has anyone heard from nyu students how nyu-shanghai is?

Hi! Here are some links to the study abroad program in Shanghai (You might have already seen these):

I’m from Shanghai and from what I have heard, I think NYU will be building a new building/campus in Shanghai. Also, my brother studied abroad in Shanghai and really enjoyed it. If you want, I can try asking my brother for more information?

veggie,

Do come back with more info from your brother regarding the Shanghai abroad experience. Was his study abroad connected with NYU at all? Also, how disadvantaged is it for students with limited Chinese speaking and writing abilities? Maybe you can have him check on this if he himself is fluent in Chinese. Thanks.

My brother attended CAS, and studied abroad in Shanghai the second semester of his sophomore year and is fluent in Chinese. However, many of his friends who went abroad with him weren’t, but they didn’t really have any problems with the language barrier. He told me that the NYU team in Shanghai was great and really took care of the students, often organizing trips to nearby towns to visit temples or enjoy some local delicacies.
I recently visited Shanghai for winter break, and I definitely don’t think it’s difficult for people with limited Chinese speaking/writing abilities to live there. I don’t think a student who isn’t fluent in Chinese will be disadvantaged because there is quite a large number of people there who can speak decent English.

I hope this helps! I can always ask for more info if you need any :)

veggie, That’s helpful. Sonny was interested in NYU Shanghai. He just told me NYU is starting a special program in Shanghai like NYU Abu Dhabi (latest news).

He is now undecided between Shanghai and Florence. Thanks for the info about the language not being a handicap.

Sure no problem!

Florence, all the way. Leaving in <36 hours!!

hellodocks,

Have a great time in Florence! Enjoy all the art, culture and history there!
:)

E

Haha nice!

I want to go to LSP NYC but my referral options just have florence, shanghai, london and paris, I thought we had a choice whether we wanted to study abroad or not.

The NYC campus isn’t offered to all LSP acceptances. You can call admissions and ask to be put on the waitlist for the NYC campus, explaining that you don’t want to study abroad your first year. I’m sure people will decline the offer of LSP NYC and spaces should open up.
