NYU Shanghai Admissions

Does anybody here have a definite idea of just how hard admissions is to NYU Shanghai?

Is it harder than CAS or just as hard as Abu Dhabi?

Is the financial aid more like NY's or Abu Dhabi's?

Would taking Chinese classes in high school help a lot?

I tried searching and info seems pretty scarce, but it's probably because it's rather new.

Thanks in advance!

Hello! As a senior this year (considering applying to NYU SH as well), I’ll try to answer your questions as briefly as I can.

 1. I’m not really sure about CAS, but my friend (Class of '18) told me that when she applied there were more applications for SH than for AD. However, I feel like the acceptance rate is growing so this year more students will be accepted.
 2. I would say it’s in between. Financial aid is amazing, but kind of more… complicated? than the aid for AD. You can get a full ride as you would get in AD, but the whole process of getting that aid is more complex. For example, they will most likely pay 99.8 or 99.9% of the money. Myself, coming from the really poor country do not find this a problem, I can pay 300 or 400 $ a year. However, if that is a problem in your situation you can always ask them for more.
 3. I’m still not into learning Chinese right now, I think I will start if I get in. I think learning Chinese would be a great opportunity but as I’ve said, in my country, we don’t have a course or anything where we would learn it. I think you would be in a great advantage with at least some general knowledge.

I tried to answer your question as good as I possibly could, I’m telling you again, I’m only applying this year so I still do not know everything. I hope I could help you in any way. Xoxo

Hi! I’m a current freshman (C O '18) at NYU Shanghai.

Financial Aid for class of 2017 was very generous. Last year it was both Full-Need and Need-Blind like NYU-Abu Dhabi. The only other schools in USA that were both Full-Need and Need-Blind are Princeton and Harvard. For class of 2017, Avg. SAT (excluding Writing) was 1406 (For comparison, NYU-Abu Dhabi was about 1480, Princeton 1505, Cornell 1400-1420 and regular NYU was 1200).
