Does the UC count any senior year classes?

for admissions, yes, but extremely rare: only in the case of someone on the admissions bubble -- they may ask for senior transcript. After acceptance, yes -- you have to maintain a B (I think) average or your offer will be rescinded.

But first quarter grades are not calculated into overall GPA when UC's are looking at applications?

no, first quarter grades are not counted for application purposes, unless they come back and ask you for them, which is extremely rare.

blubayou, i couldn't find if my ethnic studies class earns IGETC credit, but i found a course description and in it it says:
"Recommended Preperation- [...] concurrent enrollment in READ 400, 405, or 415 OR approriate skill level as indicated by the reading placement tests or other measures. (CSU/UC)"

does this say anything regarding UC recognition of the class?

sorry, Brian, can't help you on this one. Suggest you call the college and ask them if the class is transferable.

ok, i might just do that.

thanks.

babybayou,

at my daughter's school honors pre-calc doesn't get the extra point for the UC. she took it in 11th grade. I read on the uc site somewhere that there is a cap per high school on the number of courses that get counted as "honors" for each a-g category.

so if you end up taking more real classes (ie not PE), it actually hurts you as it offsets the 8 5s you can get?

That doesn't seem fair...

kcp:

honors precalc at our HS is UC-approved for the bonus point. You are partially correct: there is an 8 semester bonus point cap for admissions per se; however, elc calculations are made with uncapped bonus points. Moreover, strength of schedule is critically important for admissions to Cal and UCLA, so taking more honors/ap/ib courses (even if the points are capped) is better than taking college prep courses (assumes your HS offers the more rigorous courses).

If you took a ccc transferable class, would you receive the extra grade point even though you're already past the 8-semesters limit?
