So Wanna Help Me Calculate my UC GPA? I'll love you forever.

Ill keep it short and snazzy kids:

10th grade:
4 A's in Honor's classes, 1 B in Honors Class

11th grade:
4 A's in AP Classes, 1 A in Honors Class

I'm also an OOS'er, so yeah, I will seriously love you if you can calculate this for me, because I have no idea how (and yes, I've checked the website and several other sources, everything is just worded very confusingly)

I am assuming each of these classes was a yearlong course and that you got A’s both semesters for all the classes listed with “A” grades, and that you got B’s both semesters for the one Honors class. That’s 18 A’s and 2 B’s, so (18 x 4.0) + (2 x 3.0) = 78. Add 8 extra points for each semester of AP class, so 78 + 8 = 86. Since you took 20 semester classes, that’s 86 / 20 = 4.3.

So your UC gpa is 4.3. This is weighted and capped, which is what is usually referenced.

Not all Honors classes earn the extra grade point, but you’ve earned the maximum with your 4 AP classes.

BTW, your unweighted UC gpa is 3.9 (78 / 20).

We have several high schools in our large CA school district. The only “Honors” class that the UC’s weight (5 for an A) in our district is Honors Pre-Calculus. English, History, etc are only weighted if they are AP classes or some of the IB’s.

you didn’t take ANY regular classes? 5 classes per semester seems light.

also, Honors points only count if you’re in-state. only AP and IB courses get extra points for OOS applicants. but like mothergoldenbear said, you already maxed out on 8 weighted points anyway.

Honors courses are only given +1 points if they are listed as such at http://doorways.ucop.edu in the a-g course lists. Probably not if your high school is not in California.

scodesario, APs are given a point for everyone. Only CA schools MAY have UC certified honors which also get a bump up, but they have to have evaluated the course, so it only applies to CA schools. There are not many actually certified for CA schools either, my kids took honors courses that weren’t certified.

As to being a light schedule, I presume that unlike in CA, that state has four years of phys ed, and he/she isn’t bothering with that grade (and shouldn’t bother with it.)

Seems like mothergoldenbear has already done all the work though, so she gets loved forever!

haha, well said collegevetting, indeed I’m in a state where there’s a lot of physical education and elective requirements, so I actually take about 8 classes each year, but just left those out for GPA calculating purposes.
