I really want to go to this college, but it is too expensive. Someone pls help
Your other threads mention that you’re an art student and you seem to be in NYS. That’s good news for you because the CUNY/SUNY systems are very good. The bad news is that the best aid comes from the schools. If the package you got isn’t enough to pay the costs, the school is unaffordable. You need to contact them immediately and withdraw completely (cancel classes, the dorm, and the meal plan) so you’re not charged.
Are you a freshman or a transfer? What happened with the NYS colleges you said were affordable? It may be late to get into them this year but you can take a gap year and reapply next year. Are you Downstate? The schools you mentioned sound like they’re close to the City. I’m more familiar with the SUNY system, but @sybbie719 knows a lot about both CUNY and SUNY. She might be able to offer some advice.
It looks like against the advice and conventional wisdom of those who advised OP to chose the more affordable option, I think Op may have chosen Manhattanville over SUNY Purchase.
Op now realizes that this is not an affordable option. There are no quick scholarships. What you need to today, is cancel your registration at Manhattanville (if that is the school you chose). Let them know that you are not coming. Take whatever loss you have to on deposits.
Will Purchase be affordable to your family? If it is, your best bet would be to contact them, explain your situation and see if they will take you, if not now, perhaps in the spring.
Will you be commuting or staying on campus?
If purchase is not affordable Op will have to take a gap year and come up with a list of affordable colleges. Op can apply for SUNY/CUNY for January admission.
If you cannot afford to dorm, where is the closest school that you can commute to?
Did you get TAP/Pell as part of your financial aid package? Will it cover tuition at SUNY or CUNY:?
Are you eligible for the excelsior scholarship? Then you will have to apply for next year or possibly January
Tough love time- there is no money fairy. Magicial thinking will not solve your problem. Don’t you think if there were scholarships just sitting around waiting for you everyone would be after them.
Listen to what people are telling you.
Join the club. Most people have to take finances into account when choosing a college. You should not expect to find last minute scholarships. Don’t start a college unless it appears to be affordable for 4 years – seek out affordable options.
