I am not happy with my Financial Aid Award

According to the Financial Aid Award paper, I am getting about $8000 in grant, $8000 in loan, and nothing in scholarship (add in the $500 due to scholar if you count that). Does that mean I will have to borrow $8000 for the upcoming year and be in about $24000 in debt by the time I graduate? I thought SUNYs are quite cheap for in-state students.

...have you looked at how much top private colleges cost? About 50K annually- you got off just fine. I got NO financial aid from Binghamton, so count your blessings.

You should've been applying for scholarships all year (does your HS have a scholarship newsletter? Ask around in your guidance dept), but it might not be too late for you to apply for some other ones.

kev binghamton is one of those stingy schools, at www.collegeboard.com if you find bing school page it says i believe average graduate is 19k in debt.

Thank you all for your responses. If I decline some of the loan offers, then I will have to pay via other means such as borrowing from my family friends or relatives, right?

Are you saying you're in-state? If so, wouldn't the $8000 grant cover full tuition, and then some? Wouldn't you only have to pay for room and board (which are very reasonably priced at Bing)? How can you not be happy with that? Please clarify. Thanks.

you got a pretty good deal. Just think about it, your parents are paying for your expenses right now and if you go to bing, those expenses will free up money for bing. Also I only got 1000, which I am not happy with but I am waiting to compare to a private. I'm pretty sure after comparing it with a school like nyu, I will find Bing a lot cheaper. NYU's room and board alone is around 11000

I guess I have no other option but to be happy since I most probably will go there (I technically only applied to Bing and Stony).

look, you're paying 8k a year at a relatively prestigious school. why is bing stingy with financial aid? maybe its because bing is a public school and does not have a huge endowment like harvard or princeton. be happy with the 8k you might be paying, because as of now... im probably going to have to pay 50k for an education at BC
