It depends on the department you're in. The best way to check is to go to umd.edu and search on the name of your department and scholarships.</p>
<p>Some, like Engineering and dept of Ag, that I know specifically, will offer scholarships to incoming freshmen based on their stats, etc. as part of the application process. Others, like CMPS, offers little to no merit aid to their incoming freshmen. You can apply in the spring for the following year, however.</p>
