Ok, my D already recieved acceptance package, which is great. But now we have to wait to enroll to see if she will be recieving any merit scholarship awards. I have already read on other posts that The Distinquished honor award letters went out, but what about the merit scholarships? has anyone recieved any info about that? if and when you do please post it so we can start running to mailbox, like we been doing anyway..lol..Thanks, or any info about getting any grants or student financial aid. Our decision for my D going to U of D will depend on if we can get any help. Thanks for any information

Are you in-state or OOS? In past for OOS acceptances the merit award was included in the acceptance letter packet. You can also check on applicant’s UD portal site. If the acceptance is noted there you can go to Finance section and usually any scholarship awards are noted there. If you are in-state I’m not sure if they do it differently.

Thank you for the information; I am checking the portal and mailbox daily, hoping for acceptance to my dream school, UD for nursing!! I am OOS (New York) - do you have a sense of when the notifications may be received here?

OOS applicants (with a few exceptions-such as applicants invited to attend the Distinguised Scholars event) are notified of acceptances beginning in March. Based on past years my best “guess” is that this process will begin the weekend of 3/8/13. Last year they sent an email notifying applicants of acceptance which was followed up by the official acceptance package by US mail. The student’s UD portal was changed shortly after the email was sent out. However with the new Admissions Director who knows for sure whether the process will change or will be earlier or later. They have been doing some new and possibly confusing things this year that they have not done in the past (sending out recent emails, letters, portal changes to some students that seem to “infer”, to varying degrees, that the applicant will be accepted). However it does not appear that this is a general practice as some applicants with very high stats (whom one would think would have little problem in being accepted) have not received anything. The bottom line is applicants will just have to endure until the acceptances are sent out in March. Good luck to everyone.

She is in state, nothing in the acceptance package about any merit scholarship or grant monies. Just have to make a decision and pay deposit by May 1st. not sure if it would be in separate letter or not.

Did you check on-line at your D’s MyUD Portal. If her acceptance is noted there (sometimes there is a delay between getting the acceptance letter and when the UD portal is updated) click on the Finance (or similarly named) link and any merit aid awarded is usually noted there. This is how it has been done in past for OOS students but I really don’t know if it is different for in-state students. Perhaps notification of merit aid for in-state students comes separately at a different time. I would suggest calling or emailing UD admissions and ask them in order to make sure you get the correct information.

As a followup to my last post if you look at UD’s website you can find an outline of what UD calls its “Commitment to Delawarians” as it pertains to meeting the financial needs of all in-state Students so they can attend UD. It looks like it includes merit money and need-based aid in the form of scholarships, grants, and loans. UD should be able to tell you how/when they inform in-state accepted applicants of their individual financial packages.

thanks again mwall for all the information you have given us. no news yet on any merit award. but no one else has posted anything about receiving notifications so we will just keep our fingers crossed and keep checking. if you happen to see anyone posting notifications please let me know…ty

Most (if not all) of the in-state students were notified of merit aid today.

Yeah, My D just received a letter yesterday. it was for 2.000. Very disappointing, especially when some other kids in her school received alot more and did not have higher grades, SAT, ECs , community service ect,Hopefully will find out why from UofD, don’t mean to sound ungrateful but dont understand it either.

OOS merit awards should be announced shortly with acceptance letters in 1-2 weeks (my guess). You can’t directly correlate OOS awards with in-state awards by looking just at the amounts. First you need to keep in mind the difference in tuition/fees between in-state and OOS (approx. 11K verses 27K). You then need to look at the percentage of tuition/fees covered by the award. OOS applicants often appear individually to be getting larger amounts (which they do) but you need to keep in mind this difference. A 2K in-state award is roughly equivalent to an OOS award of 5K from a percentage of tuition/fees basis. A 4K in-state award would roughly be equivalent to a 10K OOS award. IMHO looking at the percentage of tuition/fees covered by the merit award is a reasonably fair way of doing this, which IMHO is the perspective that UD takes.
