Does anyone think I have a chance to get into UGA??

Hey I am a junior right now and I live in-state. Im wondering based on this info if anyone has an idea on whether I could be accepted to UGA next year.
I'm in my schools International Baccalaureate*program.
My classes include:
•IB biology
•IB lit
•IB world history
•IB tok (theory of knowledge)
•IB Spanish
•Chinese
•Newspaper Journalism
•Accelerated Math 3 (I'll explain it)

I have taken both Chinese and Spanish for three years each and plan to take them both senior year as well. International baccalaureate is arguably the most rigorous course load available in high school. My cumulative GPA is 3.2 but I am honestly trying as hard as I possibly can this semester. Not to say I hadn't tried before, but I know that 3.2 is low.
I'm sure some of you are wondering what accelerated math 3 is, well thanks to my schools horrible policies, we do math very different. Instead of taking algebra, geometry, trig and calc in separate years, we combine small aspects of each into every year.

EC's include:
•Many community service hours (215)
•Being selected by my teachers to be a mentor for elementary school students during my junior and senior year.
•Went through an entire interviewing process and was accepted to be an intern for an entire month at PriceWaterhouse Coopers, a very renowned tax firm.
•Jv captain of my high school soccer team in 9th/10th grade.
•Donated blood to the red cross

As for these I don't know if they count:
•Been confirmed in the catholic church
•Traveled to China this summer on exchange for two weeks.

My job history begins at 11 years old:
•At 11, I was a coat boy/door boy at a 5 star Italian restaurant. I stayed for 4 years doing these jobs.
•At the same restaurant after the four years I became a bus boy for a year.
•At 14 I worked as a concession stand/garbage can cleaner at a pool.
•Lifeguard at the pool for 3 years.
•Dishwasher

I am awaiting my SAT scores. I just took it and I have a good feeling that I made a 1800. First time taking it.

I live in Georgia too, and although I’m still in high school I have many friends who have been accepted or are attending UGA. From what I’ve heard they have some of the most unpredictable admissions ever. Almost all of the people I have known to apply have been accepted some with worse grades than you, but at the same time I have known a few to get rejected who had much better grades than you. UGA is a very large school, and when you apply you will be asked to put in a intended major (school within the school). If you are applying to their business or medical school it is going to be much more difficult to get in than if you were to apply to be a teacher. When you apply to UGA ED (Maybe EA too I’m unsure) you don’t have to write an essay you simply send in your scores. It would probably be a good idea to talk to a counselor about this because ED apps normally have better chances, but in your case you might need the essay to balence out your grades.

If you go to a private school like myself, and those IB classes are the best classes offered then that will look amazing on your application. From what our college counselor has said to us when a college looks at a competitive, private school student’s app they look at the AP classes they have taken as a fraction. So let’s say I have taken 6 out of 13 AP classes offered at my school I will have an advantage over a student from Woodward who has taken 6 out of 25. We don’t have IB classes so I can’t fully relate to your situation.

I went to a college fair at The Lovett School in Atlanta earlier this year, and went to one of UGA’s sessions. The guy didn’t give us very much information infact he talked about football quite a bit, but he did mention that to be a competitive app you need to take trig in high school. UGA is obviously familure with the Math 1-4 system since every school in GA will have it untill the year we graduate, but I would make sure to do well in math 3 and get into math 4. Also an 1800 on the SAT is good, but with lots of practice you can continue to get it up. Take it every chance you get. If you like chinese and spanish take the SAT IIs if they are offered so you can shine in the areas you are good at.

One final thing to consider is that you do live in Georgia. UGA isn’t your average school that is looking for diversity they are proud to have 85% instate students (Then again who would want to move here from out of state).

Keep in mind I’m not a UGA student I’m just a random Georgia high school junior like you. What I know about UGA is from friends, accepted students, rejected students, and rumors so don’t take any of this as SOLID fact although it hopefully gives you a little more of an idea as to your chances of getting in. Hope it helps, atleast some. Be optimistic and apply =)

Hey man just wanted to say thanks for the input. I actually go to a public school here in Atlanta, they just happen to offer IB. And I can definitely agree with you on the statement that no one wants to move here haha. But yeah I’m looking to raise my gpa to about a 3.5-3.6 by the time I apply. I’m still deciding whether it’s even worth it to try ED or EA but what do I have to lose doing it. Thanks again man
