Does applying earlier increase your chances of getting in?

Hey everyone,

I was just looking around at the different websites for the schools I am applying to and it seems that some of them tell you when you will be accepted at different times. Like some seem to be rolling and some say you will know by this time in May or April.

For those of you who have been around this site for a while and familiar with when people found out, what is the normal time to know and which schools work on a rolling basis?

And also though I have no time to do my apps now and planned to do them over winter break anyway, does anyone know if applying earlier increases your chances of getting in?

Also do you think colleges consider minority status in thier transfer processes? I am not sure about that just because to me it seems like they can easily build their diversity in thier freshman class and really should not have to rely on transfers to do so.

Whats your opinion?

1) look into which schools are rolling and which arnt (those who notifiy in april/may)...do the rolling apps first
2) most schools with regular apps/non-rolling send out decisions between april 15 and may 1...it varies school to school, but decisions go online usually may 1, and sometimes you can recieve a letter earlier than that
3) go to collegeboard.com and search for rolling admission schools...or just ask each school individually
4) doing them early, unless the school is rolling-admissions, has little to no effect, other than you can make sure everything is in and recorded for
5) minority status is considered (URM), as well as legacy and first-gen for most schools...however, i would expect minority status to have less effect on transfers

i agree with shoebox on all of the answers
