Does being a blood donor count as community service?

I have plenty of other stuff if it's not a good thing to include lol but of course I'm freaking out and I'm in one of those I'M NOT GOING TO GET INTO COLLEGE AND MY LIFE IS OVER kind of moods, so I figured another EC couldn't hurt haha.

Being a blood donor will not help your chances if you list it as an EC. IF you wrote about how much it means to you to be making a difference for someone out there, no matter how slight (or big--as it can be, in this case), then that might amount to something.

It isn't an EC, but at my school you do get comm. service hours from it; 5 for the first time and 3 for every donation after that. On top of that, I get free food, 100s on the quiz given by my college writing teacher that day for donating (because she runs the drive with NHS), get to miss class and on two occasions, get an extra day to study for an AP Environment test! (My school's APENV is 1000 times harder than the average, and top students drop out.) It's a sweet deal!

Yes, the time that one spends donating blood can count as community service. As is the case with most community service, it's probably not going to make a difference in your application, but you can put it down. Most colleges don't use CS as part of their admissions decisions. If they use it for anything, they use it for merit aid consideration.

The colleges that do use CS for admissions are places like HPYS, where to stand out for ECs, you have to have done something major such as having organized a large blood drive.

thanks guys

Can you make it sound interesting, as in, "I have donated 50 gallons of blood"?

As someone with a loved one who has received dozens of blood transfusions in the last month, can I just say, thank you.

I also would like to say "thank-you" to those who have donated blood. Blood donations helped save my younger S's life when he was an infant.
I have tried to give blood, but never have been accepted because I'm always borderline anemic. I really appreciate the caring people who do give blood to help others.
