I give blood every 3 or 4 months (I'll have done it 3x in about a month) and really enjoy the feeling, especially b/c my body adapts so easily. I had it written down on my activities list but was told that they don't care about this and it would only matter if I sponsored one. Is this true? Should I keep donating blood on my comm. service list?

bump? kinda early bump but i will bump i guess.

i dont think it really counts. I mean yes, its a good thing to do, but its really common among adults. Its not so much community service as charity.

Put it down. I counted that as community service when I taught college and required my students to do some community service. If giving blood isn't community service, heck, what is? It also demonstrates more concern and compassion than the trivial things that many students do to fatten their resumes with so-called community service.

I think it's great that you do it, and that you also can do it. I've tried to give blood, but I'm always just a hair too anemic. :(

Thanks for the responses! Glad to have that out of the way. I guess it couldn't really hurt me...

but how about "hours per week", "weeks per year"? how would you fill these up?

"really enjoy the feeling" sounds like you get high when donating blood.....

What about 1 hour per week and 3 weeks a year?

I went to one where from entering and exiting the door it took me about 3 hours...and I gave my blood in under 6 minutes.

"really enjoy the feeling"...sounds like a possible essay topic..."optional essay: why I enjoy giving blood....I get a woozy and I suddenly reach a castle on top of a cloud with pink fairies" etc...
