Does being selected for FAFSA Verification for a specific school mean that you're admitted?

I was recently selected for a FAFSA verification for one of my EA schools. I was selected for FA verification for Fordham, and ended up getting accepted 3 weeks later. I wasn’t accepted into my ED school, and I was never told to turn in additional documents to that school. Is it a good sign if the school I hear back from this month has asked for additional finance info? Thanks!

No

@twoinanddone Are you sure? It just showed up in my to do list for the college, despite me submitting my fafsa back in November. It also says, “Additional information is required for us to complete your financial aid award.” Not to mention the one school that didn’t require for me to verify rejected me.

While I am not @twoinanddone , I agree with her that getting contacted for verification does not mean anything. At many private schools, admissions and financial aid operate as two separate functions. Some schools are required to verify every one who applies for financial aid and prepares packages so that they can go out when admissions sends over their list of acceptances. Verification is pretty standard practice now for financial aid departments.

No, it doesn’t mean you have been accepted. Might you be accepted? Sure. Many schools accept more than 50% of applicants so the odds are in your favor and you might have better than even odds if you are a high stat kid. Just getting selected for verification doesn’t mean you have been accepted.

It means the school needs additional information to process a financial aid application for you. That is ALL it means.

But I would strongly suggest you submit whatever they are asking for ASAP. If you DO get accepted…you won’t get a financial aid package until your verification materials are complete…and reviewed.

Just adding on: no.

No…the FA office doesn’t know if you’ve been admitted.

My D just got asked for verification 3 days after she submitted to Wake Forest so I’m afraid I have to agree that it doesn’t mean anything.
