My daughter is on waiting list for Exeter and; St Paul; Lawrenceville; Deerfield and Choat. It is so quiet, no school contact us which make us anxious. Does anyone know how this waiting list works? Does these schools reply to waiting list candidates?
I would read the Wait List thread. Most schools have announced if they are full
You may want to call or email the Admissions office at each school to get further information on your situation. Many have announced they are full but there can still be movement as payments are due, etc. In general, getting off of the waitlist is pretty unlikely so its best to make other plans.
Please call each of them. Do you have any acceptances? If not, tell them that and say that if you were to get off the WL, you would accept immediately. Now is not the time to sit back and wait for someone to contact you.
The top schools take kids off of the waitlist in very small quantities, if at all. If too many accepted kids don’t enroll, then they begin to take some off of the waitlist. So far, two kids have gotten of of Choate’s and on off of Saint Paul’s. They will eventually email you telling you if they are done taking kids off.
Thanks to buuxn03; Hmom16; GMC2918 and Nico, your advices make me feel better. We are in Singapore, Schooling here is great as well. My daughter wants to go back US. As a A student; SSAT 99%; play sports, violin, speaks Multiple languages and many community services. Read through these school’s admissions requirements, we thought she should be qualified for boarding school. I guess that we misunderstood something. Thanks to all of you for writing to me. I love American, hope we will be back to America in a near future.
I would definitely listen to @GMC2918 and call the schools if you had not received an email ! Good luck!
@Qingnan , please understand that it is not a matter of being qualified - many qualified students are not admitted because there are so few places. Are you also looking for financial aid? That can also make it more difficult.
If only it were a matter of qualifications. Applying to boarding school is like holding the magic 8 ball. It requires a little skill and a lot of luck.
You are sounded as a professional. You are right. We need luck. We are overseas 11 years. Not really aware where our income level stands comparing others. We checked on one of schools website, it showed that we are eligible to apply FA. One school even sent us “needs blind” email. We indicated amount that we can pay, When schools put us on waitlist, looking around the kids got accepted, we realized it’s a big mistake to apply partial FA. We wrote to some schools to withdraw the FA application. Not sure if it helps. It’s a lessons learn. Thank you!
Dear everyone, a nice lady from Deerfield called us and said Deerfield will give the offer to my daughter. We are so happy to share the news to all of you. Thank you for giving us the suggestions and advice.Thank you!!!
It will be a long journey for our Kids. they need to continue study hard for their colleges and work hard for their career. It is uneasy to be parents. I has been challenged since my daughter at age 2. I believe all the parents come to this website has some thing in common: we concern our children’s education, we care about their future,
One thing I would like to share with parents that I set my daughter’s study desk at living room not in her bed room and the hand phone has to leave at living room by the time she goes to sleep. If you are bother by not knowing what your Kids are doing in their rooms, try this way, they will get use to it and you will see their school grades going up.
congratulations @Qingnan !!!
@Qingnan Congrats!
@Qingnan So happy for your daughter and your family!
Also, I agree with your study philosophy - we do the same in our house. No phone in the bedroom and homework is done in the dining area.
@Qingnan that is amazing news!!! So happy for you!!! =D>
Congrats!
@Qingnan congrats!! What grade is your daughter going into? Also, based on your descriptions I’m assuming she holds American passport?
Thank you, thank you, tanks to all of you! God bless all of you!
Hold your hands, shake shake shake!
Congratulations! ! So glad it worked out!
