Me and one other girl in my class applied and I was wondering if it is likely that they will compare me and her? Does Brown do that…I like to think that they don’t, but I was just curious.

Thanks

They probably do compare students of the same school, but if one of you is more qualified than the other, that does not automatically mean the other won’t be accepted. If both of you are “qualified” under Brown’s standards, then it won’t matter that you’re both from the same school.

They compare everyone who applies to all other applicants. That’s how they make their decisions… Will they compare you more with her than with others? I don’t know about that.

I would say yes, admissions officers probably do compare you to others from your same school, but probably just in the same way they compare you to those in your admissions area. And from experience, the “best person” doesn’t always get in. Out of the 5 people from my school who applied to Brown last year, I had the lowest SAT/ACT scores and probably a middle-of-the-pack gpa and I was the only one who got in (obviously this is only one aspect of admissions). As you know, its a very complicated process, one anyone but the admissions officers will probably truly never understand.
