Does browsing here ever depress you?

But then there are all the USA_O and science competition threads. I’ve never heard of any of them and it makes me feel like I shouldn’t even apply to HYPSM as a prospective pre-med.

EXACTLY. 10char

Totally agree with LiverpoolFC-YNWA.

If I don’t come up with some amazing research project or win some crazy award, I feel like the best option for me is to move to Antarctica and live with the penguins. Maybe they’ll want me.

Some of those people could be…lying.

I try really hard and am somewhat accomplished in my own rite…but undoubtedly mediocre by comparison
this makes me sad

haha. We should get psychiatrists to monitor this thread and give help to the depressed with their Socratic methods. “So how do you feel?”

That’s because you haven’t spent time in Fairbanks in January…

… or been in Utah when it’s 98 degrees in the summer and incredibly humid.

(not that Utah isn’t the most beautiful place on Earth)

That’s silly. That mostly depends on the high school. A lot of people get into those places without competitions. I got waitlisted at Caltech without any Science Olympiads, and I think I might have had a good shot at getting accepted if I had been able to send them extra information earlier.

And the scary thing is, I’m a rising junior (finished sophomore year).

Two more (or one and a half) more years stressing about this.

And to the others: I’m actually genuinely want to go to harvard. After I visited with my sister I love the atmosphere and everything there. It’s not about the prestige. My parents aren’t pressuring me to go, either.

It definitely makes me aware of the other opportunities that other kids have that I have either not sought out or simply not be able to obtain. I also realize with SAT scores that it’s not a measure of anything besides being able to master a certain style of testing; it by no means measures intelligence.

My main reason for going on CC is driven by curiosity, and the occasional questions about the arudous college application process.
