Does anyone else find this site demoralizing?

I've read a countless number of perfect stats and grades, and I feel... idk, like my grades are only sub par. Here's an example, though I've read many more like this:

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/high-school-life/808118-lets-compare-grades-after-all-were-ccers.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/high-school-life/808118-lets-compare-grades-after-all-were-ccers.html</a></p>

For people who take AP's and Honors like me, I can say that some of those grades are a little unrealistic :/ . I'm sure there are natural geniuses out there, but everyone?

So is this feeling common amongst CCers?

Don’t worry. There are many HS kids out there who have sub par. grades, not just you.

It def is. not for ME jk jk…

most everyone feels like that here.
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/high-school-life/525584-i-am-idiot.html</a>
greatest poster ever ^

I used to. But I got over that and realized that I shouldn’t worry about the difference between a 96 and a 97 and that high school isn’t the be all end all of life. I knew I was going to drive myself crazy if I constantly compared myself to the people on CC and I was never going to get a 4.0 with a 2400. I just relaxed. And, honestly, it made high school much better (although, it still sucks).

I do feel a bit demoralised but when I look at my own school (one of the top few in my country) I don’t feel so. That’s because the top student has a 93% average compared to the rest of CC!

I don’t. I have a 4.0 GPA and a 2410 SAT. There is nobody on this site better than me.

Lol I guess it is normal then

I have a 92 or 91 average, and the top-ranked person has a 95 so I guess it does depend on the individual school.

most of those kids are noobs anyway. they got A’s in high school…who cares?

Join the club I’m in all honors and AP too and I have to literally work my ass off for As. But I’ve been a slacker my whole life till like this summer. My GPA is nothing to go home proud of and I have to raise my SAT score plenty until I send in my college applications next fall/winter. At least the site is making us realize there are some competition out there and we should better ourselves from now on haha

I was just happy for a first semester B in AP English (Lit/Comp). That changed when I started coming here a lot.

In some ways, I kinda wish I found this place earlier so I could’ve been more motivated to save my grades and do more extracurriculars. I mean, at least I enjoyed school more than if I did homework and studied ALL the time, but really.
It’s hard because I visited a school just this summer and admission is competitive. I was always convinced it was above me, but now I really want to get in. Ugh.

BUT I couldn’t find anywhere on the internet with more “average” students (because who spends their free time talking/reading about college on the internet? Pshhh. =P), so here I am.
Hooray for extra stress! :D

Yes.

But I love this site. My app (and academic life) is going to be so much better because of it.

Now I actually know about

-** self-studying aps **
-TASP
-RSI
-SSP (both of them)
-Mathcamp, ROSS, PROMYS, HCSSIM, AwesomeMath
-xiggi’s method of studying for SATs
-that getting 3 800s on SAT IIs is a basic must
-that ** not ** getting a 4.0 is ok as long as you have a huge courseload and you’re in the top 8ish%
-that it’s actually possible to take max amount of aps and do fine
-USACO/BO/ChO/PhO
-USAMO isn’t a huge deal
-studying stuff at local colleges
-NOT to load your app with useless ECs (cough key club kids cough Not in the face!)
-Intel
-Siemens
-Clark Scholars
-CTY

I plan to use much of the above knowledge. Hey, I’m only a sophomore lol.

Kind of risky though because I’m basically basing myself around Mathcamp, USAMO, TASP, and my above average but not great ECs.

I learned not to compare myself to my peers, but to compare myself to CC kids, which
1)demoralizes me
2)drives me
3)makes me a lot better, stats wise

Ok, shut up about the username.

i’ve dealt with this how long…? oh right 3 years so far. and i’m still alive.

Wow math+sci=asian.
I am also a soph asian.
We should study math together.

arrives in minnesota

Damn, this is a bigger state than I thought.

Where are you? I’ve just been walking up to every asian on the street and asking if they are you. I’ve only been punched 4 times. I think they were canto.

I’m completely in agreement with the OP.

I don’t know what kind of high schools you guys attend, but at mine (a small competitive private) I have to really work my butt off if I want a solid A. I’m confident that I’ll get solid A’s in only two out of my six classes, two other classes are borderline between an A- and a B+ (depending on how well I did on the finals), I know for sure I have a B+ in yet another, and I have absolutely no idea about the last one. I won’t know till January.

It’s going to be a long, agonizing wait…

key club is a legitimate EC! >.<

Good points trumpetcolor and fledglings  I’m in complete agreement with both of you. My school’s grading policy is hard, but also unfair. Nothing is weighted in my school (ranks, GPAs), so people who get straight A’s in regular classes get accepted into NHS and get in the Hall of Fame, but people like me who work hard and get low/mid A’s in AP classes don’t :frowning: . I just feel that this site rubs a similar concept into my face. But I got accepted to all my top choices :D

hey drexeler, are you going to drexel by any chance? lol :stuck_out_tongue: because I have some interest in that place too

I’ve read someone said on here that CC is for “Ivey league pricks”. Made my day, haha but honestly colleges don’t only pick the perfect people. If that were true, half our schools wouldn’t be going to college. Colleges look at a million things. You ever hear mumurs about “the smart kid in school who had everything going for him, but couldn’t get into ______?” Colleges have a certain quota of race, gender, background, etc. that they have to meet as well, so a lot of factors going into making the college amazing. Don’t get down, I feel like I’m a great student but my test scores scrape average. I dunno how I could stand next to some of these people and compare.

^Haha I don’t think so anymore. So many people hate it there for some reason:

http://www..com/PA/DRU.html

I combed over just about all details on that site, and Drexel isn’t what the admissions office makes it out to be  Plus I couldn’t think of a better username lol.
