Does anyone know if the UC take your CCC's reputation into consideration, when they're reviewing your application. I chose my CCC because of its good reputation and academic quality, but does this matter at all to the UC's?

No, they look at you as an individual. Doesn’t matter what CCC you went to.

I’m pretty sure it does. Every year there are significantly more De Anza and Diablo Valley transfers to Berkeley and a lot of transfers from SMC to UCLA. Not just because they are big CCC, but because they are known to be the best CCC in their respective areas.

Actually it’s because location has a great impact on where people choose to transfer, not on the UC’s admissions decisions. Students at those schools are probably better as well.

cc’s have reputations?

hhahahahahaah^

Which turd smells the best?

seriously. guys, im pretty sure that any kid from any ccc can get into any amazing UC if they just work hard enough :)

^ LOL’d and agreed with posts 5-8. Community college is community college.

Investment, that’s probably because they’re some of the biggest CCC’s in Berkeley’s vicinity. I’m not sure about SMC and UCLA but from what I’ve read it must be one of the larger transfer feeder schools for UCLA because of their proximity

Since CCCs do not provide on campus housing and offer little support in finding off campus housing, I suspect that most students at CCCs live with their parents and commute to the CCC that is most convenient. I doubt that many students move from one end of the state to the other and find their own housing so they can attend a particular CCC. Therefore the quality of the students at different CCCs may differ to a certain degree because some CCCs might be located in areas where the potential applicant pool of people living within commuting distance of the CCC might be better or worse than than average. However, it appears all CCCs use the same text books, teach the same material and maintain the same standards so I doubt that going to a particular CCC cofers either an advantage or incurs a disadvantage when applying for transfer as long as the grades are good.

For UC Berkeley

“If your school doesn’t offer many of the classes you need, find a different school. UCB favors community colleges in the Bay Area. If you are dead set on transferring to Berkeley, I recommend attending one of those schools.”

Thoughts?

eHow is not an official statement from the university.

CCC reputation does not matter. What matters is finding a CCC that has the equivalents of your major’s lower division requirements. You do this by going to assist.org You also aren’t limited to just attending one CCC at the same time, you can attend multiple and it still won’t matter. As long as there is an equivalent of classes required, either for IGETC or major’s lower division requirements it does not matter.

I am a life science major that has attended both COC and SMC. I can tell you that there is ABSOLUTELY a difference in the level of teaching, competition and overall quality between CCC’s; it is night and day. There is no doubt in my mind that CCC’s like De Anza and SMC prepare you significantly better for a UC education than other CCC’s do.

Now, with all that said, I do not believe UC’s weight the CCC you attended very highly. Someone with a 3.9 from No Name Community College will still get into UCLA over someone with a 3.7 from SMC or De Anza.

I thought GCC was the best in the state? Glendale CC? Or was it their football team haha i dont know , forgot =P

The CCC just has to have the transferrable classes you need.
CCC rep doesnt matter.

not gcc lol even pcc is better. de anza or smc would take the top spot.

going somewhere where the people are more motivated definitely helps too.

I was under the impression De Anza might be “the best” as far as UCB transfers, but DVC has more, haha.

I’d think if you REALLY liked Berkeley, then you’d want to go to Berkeley City College… since… it’s right there.
