Does class rigor/high grades outweigh college "name" when transfering to GT?

If someone took RETP course classes (high rigor, like calc 2, physics, chem, etc.) with
an engineering major at a less popular name (clayton state), and then applied to GT meeting all college credits with a 3.5-3.6 gpa. Would a person who took the same classes (or even less) and had lower gpa, have a better chance of transfering before their junior year GT, since they went to Georgia Southern? Or is the class rigor and grades what outweigh?

That was rather poorly written, but I think you are asking: “Will a student from Georgia Southern with a lower GPA have a better chance of admission than a student from Clayton State with a higher GPA?”

The answer is no. In order to transfer to Georgia Tech you must have obtained between 30-45 hours of course credit at another institution and have fulfilled all of the required courses for your intended major (<a href=“Blow the Whistle! To see what courses at your institution match the required Georgia Tech courses please use the course equivalency tool here: https://oscar.gatech.edu/pls/bprod/wwtraneq.P_TranEq_Ltr</a>. In addition to completing the required courses and number of credit hours, you must maintain a sufficiently high GPA.

Georgia Tech’s current GPA policy reads as follows:

Yea, I got one of those “i ate my ice cream too fast” headaches reading that.

Honestly I don’t think anyone really knows the answer to your question (except for admissions). Kind of like “will being a minority help me gain admissions?” I think the consensus is that it will but the school isn’t going to come out and say it.

I know plenty of smart people that enter tech via community college (GPC) but if it came down to two applicants - one transfering from UGA and one transfering from Lanier tech, i’d hope they’d admit the one from the more prestigous school.

If it was me i’d just go to the easier school and get the best grades possible.
