Does CMC care about weighted GPA?

I have taken only honors classes throughout my high school career. Many of my honors courses are AP and college. The only non-honors courses that I have taken were electives, and they weren't easy electives. Unfortunately, I messed up during freshman year. I also messed up a little during sophmore year. Consequently, my unweighted GPA is only a little bit higher than 3.25. Will CMC consider my weighted GPA (nearly 4.0)?

I don’t mean to be rude, but you REALLY shouldn’t be considering CMC with a 3.25 GPA, UNLESS you got all A’s Junior and Senior year.

Don’t let overachiever92 get to you. CMC doesn’t care that much about your GPA. Look at the college board site along with many other things that the college has put out about their own admissions. The main thing they care about with your GPA is that there is an upward trend. Other than that, they see things such as extracurriculars and rigor of course load as much more important. I assume you’re a junior now. Just keep the grades going up and keep up with the heavy classes and you’ll be on the right track.

I did get all A’s Junior and Senior year. I would have had better, but my family life was really difficult.

Thanks gonnabcrazi. I have taken a lot of college classes and I have many personal academic pursuits about which I am passionate. Do you think it would be a good idea to send them a sample of my work?

From talking to the admissions office (I did two interviews–one for admission and one for the merit scholarships), I really do believe that the committee considers how you were able to maximize the opportunities available to you in your educational environment. If you took the most rigorous course load you could and showed that you could succeed despite obstacles, you should be fine.

As for sending in a sample of your work, if you think that it would be appropriate for the midyear report, I would do it–but only if it showcases something recent that wasn’t included in your original application. Make it short and sweet. :)

I was admitted with a 3.258 UW GPA, and a 4.989 W GPA from a large, public high school.
AP credits +1.5 weight.
Honors + 1 weight

You dont need an extraordinary GPA to get into CMC, and I prove that.
