<p>Yes, they do. If you’re in, you’re in. Cornell doesn’t say, “Well, this person only was in the 15th percentile for our average admitted SAT score, let’s check up on their senior grades to see if they should stay.” Once you’re in, all students start on even ground. </p>
<p>They just want to make sure you aren’t an epic fail your senior year. So don’t let your grades drop off the end of a cliff.</p>
<p>So they require all schools to send a first quarter report??? This is not what I was told by my counselor.</p>
<p>Well, that’s because counselors usually don’t put that much effort into their jobs (at least from personal experience/years of reading questions on these forums). But I’ve never heard of students not being required to send their senior year grades to Cornell.</p>

<p>I have heard conflicting reports. Most people have told me that they don’t for everyone, but if you are a borderline applicant, or they are having a tough time deciding, they will go ahead and ask for first quarter grades of ED applicants.</p>

<p>It sounded like you were talking about the mid-year report but I might be the one misunderstanding here.</p>

<p>Can someone clear this up? Why wouldn they just state this for requirements while applying? My first quarter GPA consists of 5Bs 2As, quite lower than my overall GPA, is this gonna hurt me much? Our grades are done so that only semester grades matter, yet they want to see our 1st quarter GPA?</p>
<p>All I know is that Cornell called my D’s GC about two weeks before she was accepted ED to check on her first quarter grades.</p>

<p>@Mayonaise: Umm, Cornell/colleges in general are pretty explicit that your acceptance is based on your entire high school career. Did you really expect them to say “Your admissions is based on the first 6 semesters of high school [implying the last 2 don’t count]” I think for your chances, it all depends what your guidance counselor reports. If only semester grades matter at your school, he/she probably won’t report those grades to Cornell. If Cornell sees those grades before their decision is made, I don’t see how that can help your chances.</p>
<p>Taken from their Admissions blog Q&A: “Sarah, first quarter grades are not required for ED applicants, but they are very helpful for the selection committee. The selection committee typically wants to see all academic work you have completed completed, especially the most recent (your senior year).”</p>
<p>Thanks, all of you guys. So we still run the chance of being specifically asked by Cornell, then. I hope they don’t ask me, lol. I generally have much better semester grades than quarter grades.</p>
<p>Haha same here. I was planning on boosting some grades for the semester overall. Well, look at the bright side. At least you will be reconsidered for RD, where your midterm report will hopefully reflect better academic proficiency.</p>

I’m praying that I will, haha. We’ll see how things turn out. The decision release date feels so close but it seems like time’s moving slowly.</p>
