im asking this bc i totally flubbed my finals two weeks ago and will wined up with a lot of B's. what do u think?

I have 3 C's (in physics, pre-calc, and on the pre-calc final) but I'm not really worried

from the class of 2011 website:

Question: how bad do your grades have to get to be put on academic probation? A couple Cs won't do it, right?

Answer: Most likely not. Don't slack off too much though. If your grades are significantly worse in the spring semester than in the fall, you may want to contact the Admissions office.

Question: If I get three Cs and two Bs in my AP classes this semseter will my adimssions status be in jeopardy?

Answer: I want to say yes so you don't slack off in high school...but no, they won't kick you out with those grades.

Question: i'm on the verge of getting a D in calc and this week is the last week to drop a class with W as in withdrawal on the transcript. other than calc i have A in all my other classes. Will i get my admission revoked if i get a W on my transcript?

Answer: I can't answer that definitively, but I doubt it. I think the worst that could happen would be that you start your freshman year on academic probation. If you're that worried about it, contact your registrar or the undergraduate admissions office.

Question: What exactly is the policy on second term marks? I know it says to satisfactorily complete your high school diploma, but how much can your average drop from the Mid-Year Report before they revoke your offer of admission?

Answer: There is no strict formula. Rescinding an offer of admission is quite rare, but can happen. I would definitely still pass your classes and try to stay at or above B- in them. (My first 2 quarters in senior yr AP physics I had 110, which I dropped to 79 my last two semesters! Go laziness)

etc

so, no, probably not a big deal

B's are completely fine...don't worry about it. Have a great Summer!

youre fine

awsome! but crap i did drop a class although it was only a halfyear elective. thanks hope u have a great summer too! (although we stil have to write that summer reading essay).

dont worry youre fine, kid. i had much worse than you senior year of HS...and yes, i did get kicked, but that was some other matter.

You're good! :)

seriously? what happened -- aren't (weren't?) you in the class of 2011?

no. im 2010. it was crazy....i deposited to 5 colleges cause I knew what was coming and cornell told me to come back next year, automatically

"...and yes, i did get kicked, but that was some other matter."

haha that was really reasurring. i second the post above. i thought your a incoming freshman

so you didn't get bounced because of your grades? or you did?

oops ignore my post

I did get kicked....actually, I deposited to 5 colleges, and 4/5 of those colleges kicked me out...the 5th one revoked my full scholarship (I had no choice but to attend this one, but my parents werent so happy about the tuition...)

and cornell gave me a second chance and told me to come back next year, provided I keep my grades up in freshman year.

how bad were your grades (if you don't mind me asking)?

+

do I have anything to worry about with three C's?

if you only have 3 C's, I don't think that should be much of a problem. How many A's do you have?

I remember last year, before I sent in my final HS transcript, I called the admissions office and asked them how much weight they put on the final. They told me that what matters the MOST is your midterm grades...once you're admitted, they don't really care about your final transcript.

Well, you'd think that was good news to me at that time...They told me if it's a few Cs, then there really isnt much to worry about. They said they almost never rescind someone for getting C's (although you might wanna check up on that). However, they said for the majority of people that do get rescinded, its because of Ds and D-'s and a major drop in overall GPA. (I was supposed to graduate Summa Cum Laude....now I barely made Cum Laude)

so i think youre fine.

oh and btw, the admissions guy was like "yeah, we all know you highschoolers...we've been through it ourselves...we understand senioritis and how most of you are anxious to get out of high school. So a few Bs and Cs should be fine. It's only when someone completely CRASHES in a class and gets a D or D-..."

that sucks; at least you got another shot this year.

my grades will probably be:

AP Bio - B (all B's in previous quarters); likely 4 on AP exam
AP English - A (all A's in previous quarters); likely 5 on AP exam
Physics - C (down from B's in previous quarters); likely A on final (regents exam)
Pre-Calc - C (down from B last quarter and A's in the first two quarters); C on final exam
PIG - A (A last quarter; A's in first two quarters of economics (they're sister classes)); C on final exam

so I guess I have four C's in total, two of which are on final exams (do those count as much as course grades?). I'm most worried about pre-calc, since my grades in that class have steadily declined, but last quarter was legitimately difficult (most kids failed all review tests that were assigned).

should I have anything to worry about? I wasn't anxious before, but your story gets me a little concerned.

I doubt it though.....Your grades aren't half as bad compared with what I did...I mean, I understand why you're worried...but I don't really think youre screwed...ultimately, they DO want your tuition and they don't want to go around screwing up a kid's year cause of a few Cs

my friend last year had 3 Cs and went to U-Virginia without being rescinded...i know this is cornell, but still....most colleges dont do that unless you get Ds or worse

Colleges only see final grades, I believe; they do not see individual semester/ marking period/ exam grades. So if you get an A, B, and C over three marking periods, colleges will only see the final grade (the average), which would be a B. This is what my teachers have told me, so I believe it to be true.

i think that depends on how your school does things. i think my schools final grade report shows grades from each quarter plus midterms and finals. which btw sucks for me. im not that worried anymore i just hope my finals werent that bad.
