I was sent an e-mail asking to clarify some tax information, and I was wondering if they would even bother if I wasn't admitted

As D is NEED-BLIND, the office of financial aid is separate from the office of admissions. Therefore this has NO BEARING WHATSOEVER on your eventual admission decision. AFAIK, they make aid packages for all aid applicants regardless of admission decision. However, only admitted students get to know this package.

I might be wrong though. Take this with a grain of salt. :)

Son got likely letter and they ask us to clarify some assets we have for the financial aid. I don’t think they want to process everyone’s app if they don’t need to. 10% versus 100% is a big number. Besides, they have budget cut and they may not have as many people as before. That’s just my thought. I think you chance is good!

op, did you end up getting a likely?

“they make aid packages for all aid applicants regardless of admission decision.”
ah, no they don’t…they have a small FA staff and don’t have time to figure out FA packages for rejects. so getting a request for FA info at this time is a pretty good indication that you will probably get a thick envelope come April 1. happened to our son when he applied to D.

I got the css email as well, so I really hope you’re right. I didn’t get a likely letter today though, so who knows. :)

oh no, i hope I get one tomorrow haha. do you think they only do this for accepted students? or just students where things need to be clarified…?

My email was asking for a clarification. It was very personalized, though. pfips, you probably just did it all correctly :pp

This email just made the wait even worse lol

haha I love/hate looking for hidden signals in everything.

it’s a good thing we’re not paranoid or anything hahha

yeah. man, if I got into dartmouth…

that would be absolutely fantastic. :)

Yeah, I got a personalized e-mail about asset clarification as well and no likely letter. Then again, 75% or so of the accepted students don’t get likelies…

yeah, so march 30th huh? that’s the big day I hear.

March 30th is indeed D-Day! (decision day )

The financial aid office contacted my dad today asking for clarification on something. Do you guys really think this means that I got accepted/haven’t been rejected yet? I did not get a likely letter, but I still have high hopes. It would be so inefficient to make aid packages for everyone, right?!

I’ve been wondering the same thing…not about Dartmouth specifically (I didn’t even apply - this thread was just on the homepage) - but I have received requests for more information from a few of my schools’ financial aid offices - and I have been trying to figure out if this is a positive thing - or if it has no relevance - any insight?

sorry to jump on a Dartmouth thread without a Dartmouth related question :)

The OP’s son got in! They did get contacted much later in the process though. Getting a letter now probably doesn’t mean much… a month is still enough time for rejection. >_<

Haha, but I guess it may mean that we haven’t been rejected yet though.

I didn’t get a likely letter, just the CSS letter and e-mail

can anyone post what exactly does the letter say?
