Does dropping out affect GPA?

I dropped out of college my freshman year but didn’t “declare” it so I have F’s recorded in all my classes. I’d like to go back to school but I’m concerned that those F’s will be included in my transcript and/or bring down my GPA - or will they not be recorded in my transcript after I retake those classes?

(Sorry if I posted this under the wrong topic, moderators can move this post into the right topic if needed)

Probably. I suspect it’s not the dropping out itself, but failing to withdraw in time so that those grades would be W’s or dropped completely, so they became F’s.

They most probably will be included…try talking to the dean of students or somebody at your old school and see what you can do about it…or talk to someone at the new school you want to go to and see what your options are…like maybe go to Community College for a couple of semesters…do well, and then try to transfer.

It’s not honest, but you can go to a different college and not bring your transcripts along with you…

@EssayEnthusiast You can’t do that. There is a national clearinghouse that holds records of your college attendance. Colleges can and will find out that you attended school elsewhere.

@guineagirl96 True, but they don’t submit them unless required. So college can find out, but by and large they won’t. My best friend didn’t declare his year at San Diego and transferred to a top university through community college. It’s not following the “rules,” but you can get a clean slate if you want one.

Not saying this is the best advice. Going to a community college and getting stellar grades, then transferring is by far the better option.

I’m pretty sure you can get into serious trouble if you fail to report all of your transcripts to a school – I recall reading about a girl who was sued by Cornell University for the financial aid she was awarded because she withheld certain transcripts from a community college while applying and Cornell did not find out until after she was admitted.
