Went back to School, how to get 3 F's from 10 yrs ago off current transcripts?

I dropped out of college 10 years ago and received 3 F’s and 1 W. I just stopped going. Fast forward to now and Ive enrolled into a new college and submitted the transcript containing the 3 F’s to my new school. Is there anything I can do to not have those F’s count towards my overall GPA?

I do not believe so. That is why we recommend you talk to a dean on how to leave a college with the best results.

Did you stop going because of a medical issue?

They won’t accept them as credits, and in my experience transferred credits that are accepted don’t count toward your GPA, Call the school as YMMV

Different colleges will have different policies on how they count grades for transferred credit. Some transfer credit in, but don’t transfer the grades (in which case the Fs won’t show up in your GPA at the new school). Others transfer grades only for those courses that transfer (in which case, again, the Fs won’t show up in your GPA at the new school, since those courses won’t transfer). Other schools count all college-level grades received anywhere in their GPA calculations (in which case the Fs will show up in your new school’s GPA, though there’s often a clause about a different grade calculation being used for academic suspension-type issues, precisely for cases like yours). No matter what, Ws don’t count for or against GPAs anywhere. This should all be described in the college catalog, but it’s probably easier to contact the university registrar’s office to find out how it works where you are.

Looking a bit forward: No matter what, those grades will be counted by grad schools, if you go that route. However, they often do take grade trajectories into account, recognizing that some people don’t deal well with the high school to college transition—but once you get to that point you’d need to contact the programs you’re applying to, to find out what their views on the matter are.

I’d talk to your advisor (if you have one) or perhaps the registrar at your new college.

Hey, yeah the 3 F’s are counting towards my overall GPA as it stands now. When I pull up my unofficial transcript there are 3 GPA’s showing… overall, transfer and institutional. The F’s are killing my overall.

If you plan on going to med school, every college course you have taken will count regardless if you took them in high school or 10 years ago.

I emailed my adviser and she told me to talk to the registrar. I spoke to the registrar today (who was a very young guy who seemed green) and he said that my current school could only change the grades if my previous school sent a new (corrected) transcript.

Is this an issue for you because of meeting SAP for aid? If not, just don’t worry about it.

I know, I should just forget it… just hate that it shows up on my transcript. It isnt for SAP or aid

Well, since you have to take them over anyway, it seems like the best thing to do is to retake them and get a 4.0 so it will be like getting a 2.0 the first time around.

If you are planning to be a doctor then consider D.O. school over M.D. schools as D.O. schools will do grade replacement whereas MD schools do not.

Ive already retaken the classes and made A’s… The F’s are still being used to calculate my overall gpa.

Exactly, but now you’re up to a 2.0 for the classes from a 0.0 previously.

Any place that will deny you admission because of bad grades that are that old, is a place that you don’t want to attend anyway.

Focus on your current classes, and keep moving forward.

My mom had her F removed from her transcript last semester. I’m not sure how she did that

Some schools have something that’s usually called “grade forgiveness” or somesuch. It’s generally limited to a certain number of grades, and it requires jumping through quite a few hoops (and may still show up on your transcript as a “there used to be a grade here” sort of mark), and it isn’t very widespread, but in case it’s an option at your school…
