I am worried about this. I've come to the conclusion that Emory is a fabulous school...particularly for business.

But im concerned about social life....

I won't have a car. I like to be around a lot of people. I am Indian (India) and I enjoy particpating in cultural activities A LOT..i.e. dance.

With Emory's total number of undergraduates being a little under 7000 students, will I be able to find joy beyond its academic opportunities?

Dude, you are coming to the right place if you are looking for cultural events, especially amongst Indians (we have several events and Indian dance teams). You’ll be more than fine.

The culture here is very rich because of the ethnic/religious diversity (which is more than almost all other U.S. top 20s). Honestly, if 6-7K is sufficient at other top schools to have a large cultural scene, it most certainly is here.

Thanks! that’s reassuring!

What do you think about having a car? I’ll be coming from Chicago so I mean I am used to having excellent transportation and getting around easily…

Will this be a major problem in your opinion…especially with your experience?

Freshman aren’t allowed cars on campus which sucks. Also, I’d like to know about transportation. I used to live in Atlanta and even getting to MARTA stations needed a car.

Only getting to the airport was easy.

Dude there are MARTA stops on campus. MARTA is less reliable now with all the budget cuts, but it works. I use it really often.

Freshmen aren’t allowed to have cars, but I know freshmen that do anyway… you can always buy a parking pass from an upperclassman.

About diversity, Emory is actually the most diverse of all of the top-20 national universities both religiously AND ethnically.

MARTA is great for getting to the airport or for a trip downtown, and the buses run regularly, although the scheduled times aren’t very reliable.
