Is Emory boring without bigtime ra-ra sports and school spirit? I am from Cali and I have been accepted to Berkeley, UCLA, and USC all schools with big time sports programs and school spirit and I heard that makes the campuses more lively and fun. Is Emory boring because it lacks this kind of stuff? It would be the perfect school if it had the big time sports (except I'm not sure about Atlanta)! I could always be a GT fan, right? I really hate to throw away the opportunity at Emory because of it's high rank and EXCEPTIONAL pre-med program. I heard the undergraduate experience is amazing, but I am unsure about the campus life and the city of Atlanta.

Ha ha. Lord emory has one of the best social scenes of any top ranked college, half of the students are in the greek system. Theres no football team, but everybody is in some intramural sport or another. Atlanta is one of the top ranked college towns in the country and the Emory campus is beautiful. You should definately get out of cali. and see some real culture.

the fact that half of the students are in the greek system is definiteliy not encouraging. Nevertheless, I have heard some great things about Emory.

Yeah, 50 percent in the Greek system kinda bothers me...

But what about the lack of big time sports?

yeah i'm not really happy about 50% being in the greek system.. but WHY is Atlanta one of the best college towns? What do ppl do other than partying?

symphony, plays, movies, history, you name it. Atlanta is a great city, and just like Emory is growing every day. There are lots of things to do. And don't worry about the greek system, everywhere ive read it says that it isn't the dominating social force on campus.

actually, 1/3 of the students are in frats or soros. Right now, I am on the Emory campus, and the social scene here is bustling. The campus seems to be very fun and academic.

i would loove to hear more about it vtoodler!

haha also, semi-unrelated but goes with the jist of this convo... has anyone here seen that picture of the emory frat party with hte kid blowing fire out of his mouth (i think hes sitting in a lifeguard chair)? ive seen it a bunch of different places (on various emoryites webshots), haha i guess taht happened at a frat party..(everyone has the same picture)

Actually, it's 30% Greek, and we have weird traditions here like Lord Dooley and other things going on. Emory makes sure that we have something going on every week or so. Definitely school spirit is still big here and the social scene doesn't revolve around Greek life. There are always clubs for Emory students, bars, performances, random Emory parties, etc.

COPPER! YOURE BACK!

and yeah that fire spewing guy was at SAE during a frat party. it was pretty cool. except he got some bad burns on his face. at least SAE has a pool though, coulda been worse.

haha yeah all the parties looked amazing... (i like the pool aspect...)
