Stony brook is rated one of the top SUNY schools but my question is, does race really matter in admissions? As you all know asians populate a large majority of the university. I myself, am an asian that has applied to SBU in hopes of attending a college close- to home. Would i get accepted if it was me verses a white individual?

Lets say the white male had a 3.5 GPA, 1800 SAT score and good essays/activities. IF i had the similar stats lets say a 3.5 GPA, 1850 SAT and also a good essay/activities (not real stats btw), would he stand more of a chance? I know colleges say they dont discriminate but would it hurt my chances?

No, the largest and overwhelmingly predominant factor is your qualifications as an applicant.

I’ll go even further… the ONLY factor is your academic qualification. Ethnicity does not enter the picture at any point. I know we have a large Asian population on campus, but when you look at the actual numbers…

…we’re not a “majority” of anything. And that’s a great thing!

Haha thanks i appreciate the replies, i would enjoy going to stony brook because of its racial differences and academics
