Does everyone get into the Dorms at FSU? (Freshman)

I turned in my housing application like the last day and got priority # 6645.
How do I look? Am I gonna get in? I'm freaking out cause I'm hearing of people who already got their dorm assignment and everything!

That seems like a large #.

Does anyone know what dorms are the best?

Matt234? Interesting name choice.

I believe I read from another poster that anyone who applies for housing should be able to get housing. You just won’t get a preferable hall.

With the cut of 1000 from the freshman class two years ago, and the opening of Wildwood and Degraff, last year all freshman who requested housing got a room. There is also movement after assignments. After you get an assignment, filll out a change request and you may end up with a better spot.

So yeah… I just got an email telling me that I’m on a waiting list for a spot. So your a 100% that I’ll get in? Cause I cant afford an appartment and I really dont want to go to a different school

Well, not 100% this year. Seems lots more upperclassman stayed put for the next year. But, there is movement off the waitlist.

Hi…me again…june 21st…still on waitinglist. I filled out a dissability paper (i have chronic leg pain) which i hoped not to have to use, but im getting really scared ill have to find an apartment…

at this point…shouldnt most people have already canceled their application/dorm assignment if they arent going?

I just found out that a kid from our town (incoming freshman) didn’t get into a dorm. He was placed on a waiting list. Not good. It’s not like he can commute–he lives in NY.

There are scads of private dorms and apartments for students who don’t make it into an on-campus dorm. Got to say though, on-campus is likely best.

Keep at it…don’t give up.

The private dorms are just that, dorms that are on the outskirts of the university. They are just a room with a bath, or two rooms sharing a bath. They are a little less expensive than the on campus dorms, and many are withing walking distance. Anyone can rent a private dorm room. Apartments are a little trickier, but they rent by the room, so you can sign up for a room in a four bedrrom apt, and you are only responsible for the rent for the room. You can stay in a 4/4 for around $399/mos, but apt’s do make you sign a one year lease. The private dorms usually do not. THere are options even if one does not get on campus in a dorm.

It pays to apply early, and put up a housing deposit (refundable in part) the moment you get your acceptance. Those who wait to see what shakes out end up with a high priority number.

yoo matt,

Im going to FSU in the fall to and just got a place at the players club…looking for roommates. Check out their website.

Hey me again sorry if I’m starting to bug you guys but I called up today to see how my housings going and they said there were 30 more infront of me. I got all excited. But then I wasnt sure if I should be excited about 30. Is that alot? I mean how many more are going to cancel housing?
Thanks for all the responses up to now btw!

I would say 30 is not a lot. And given you signed up for housing on the last day…

Hang in there. It is only June. And summer C is just getting started… Since there are always a handful from summer C that do not return for fall, you might not even get a call until JUST BEFORE move in for fall. Hang in there.

I wouldn’t worry, 30 people will withdraw by the time the semester starts (I know like 3 people who are going to move off campus because they don’t like their assignment). Which dorm you will get is an entirely different matter. I would expect kellum, smith, etc…

have u received housing yet? I am in a worse position than you my priority number is 6888 real bad. I am wondering if there is a possibility that i will receive housing

I got in!!! I havent received an official mail or anything but I called up and they said they had room for me. I was so excited I forgot to ask where though lol. Well no matter, I’m happy to be in! Thanks to you all, especially sunnyflorida. Thanks for keepin my hopes up haha. ^^

I am so glad to hear this!!! Living on campus is great, esp as a freshman. And you will make friends and make the best of ANY location.
