I am currently taking my first semester at a community college with plans to transfer to UCSC in AGPM via TAG. I’m in danger of failing a class (Personal Development class which isn’t required but recommended for first-years), which isn’t a required course for my major nor does it satisfy any IGETC category, but it is transferrable. If I am planning to submit my TAG application for the Fall 2023 application period, will my application be voided since I failed a transferrable class in my first semester?
If it is UC transferable, the class grade will be calculated into your UC Transfer GPA = TAG GPA so it will have an impact. TAG deadline for Fall 2023 has already past so I am assuming you will apply for Fall 2024.? Since it is a Recommended class, you should retake the class, then the new grade will override the original grade.
Yes I meant for 2024, thank you. I’ve been receiving similar responses in that so long as you retake the class and get a better grade then schools must consider the better grade. I’ll be registering to retake the class next semester, thank you so much for your input!
You do have report the original grade and the repeat grade in your UC application but only the repeat grade will count in the GPA calculation.
You probably should go see an advisor at the community college to discuss what happened with this class, why you’re doing so poorly in it, what you can do to do better next time.
