Does FSU accept based on major or why the denial? Where could I find statistics?

Just relatively confused on why I was denied. Tbh I was expecting an OOS tuition waiver scholarship thing and maybe more.

ACT: 34
W GPA: 3.7
UW GPA: 3.5
Major: Computational Science

I thought I had a relatively good essay/resume. I think I got denied either because of low GPA, something to do with being out of state?, or because my degree is something very small and they can only accept so many student for that degree. Maybe a mixture of all three? Just honestly seemed odd to me that I was denied from a relatively easy to get into big public school.

Also, GPA was also only so low because of my awful freshmen year grades. I had practically straight A’s since. I’m thinking about calling or emailing them if I did get denied because of my GPA because I had undiagnosed ADD freshmen year and ever since it got diagnosed I’ve performed to my true potential and the ACT score and recent grades should show that. But, I don’t want to be annoying and hold on to a school that I simply just got denied from though. Maybe Computational Science just had a really low acceptance rate? I’ve tried to find this but couldn’t, so if anyone could help me find the acceptance rate based on major or department, I’d appreciate it and maybe it would help me understand this better.

Thanks.

Your major doesn’t have anything to do with getting into the school. I really don’t know why you got denied as I have seen much worse get in.

That is quite strange that you got rejected. I too have seen much worse get in, I personally got the OOS tuition waver with an uw 3.5 and 31 ACT.
Just throwing this out there, could you have accidentally misreported your grades on your SSAR? That thing was ridculous to figure out, I would have filled it out wrong had I not looked over it for an hour with my counselor and emailed admissions 4 different times. That is the only thing I can think of, you have stats well above their average and you actually wrote the essay. It’s so dumb that they use the SSAR, it creates more headaches than just submitting official transcripts. Sorry this happened if FSU was your first choice, but if not there are probably better schools to choose from.

The grades freshman year likely are the biggest culprit. If you had multiple grades below a C, that’s usually the biggest reason. That coupled with being out of state (which is pretty competitive) and a 3.7 GPA (which isn’t bad, but isn’t spectacular) are likely all factors.
