??does Gpa Matter As Much As Sat??

Hello My names Nayab, Right now my GPA is 3.9 and im the top 20% my SAT score is a 1520. Do I have a perfect match to get into Georgetown, Stanford, Brown, Duke, or Cornell. Or am I aiming to High. And what other schools do I have a possible chance at? Thanks!

nah id slight reach - reach all
none are matches
1520 is nice but not impressive for thses schools and if you come from a regular high school 3.9 is okayyy not that great
but u have a good shot id say at a couple of those but just as good as everyone else unless u have extraordinary extra currics
gluck

GPA is generally more important that SAT

1520 is above all of their averages.

whats an impressive SAT score?

so 1520 is a good score?

Essentially the most important factors are:

-Rank/GPA
-Board Scores (SAT,SATII,ACT,etc)

Those get you in the door and then the adcoms focus on ECs, essays, recs, etc.

For most of those schools to be a competitive candidate you'd need an SAT of 1400+ (2100+ new) and a GPA that puts you in the top 10% of your class.

i would say 1500 is the barrier from very good score to great score...on the old SAT scale of course

yes this is the old SAT score not the NEW!!

Remember this is CC: nation average is a 1000...

cc average is probably somewhere hmm...1350???

CC average was around 2160 on the new one, but some of the lower scores might decide not to post.

your only in the top 20%? 1520 isn't that good, though you might be within the middle 50% or top 25% of the applicants by SAT score. Cornells middle 50% is like 1290 - 1480, Stanfords is 1380 - 1560, Dukes is 1340 - 1540, Browns 1330 - 1520, Gtowns 1280-1470. However, its suprising how deceiving those are, considering athletes, special people, urms, etc.

so, those aren't matches at all, especially since your rank hurts. But 1520 is a good score that'll make you competetive.

Some matches would be like Lehigh, Bucknell, Colgate, ... yeah

but i dont understand the perfect score is 1600 and 1520 doesnt cut it?? i go to a verrrry hard highschool.

I completely don't understand how people can say 1520 isn't "that good". That's incredible. Be proud of yourself. You are definitely a competitive candidate for all of these schools with that score, however there are many other factors--ECs, essays, etc. A fantastic SAT score and great GPA are wonderful, but make sure everything else is up to par and you'll be fine. There's no way to know for sure, of course, but I think you should definitely apply if you love all these schools, no matter if they are reaches or not.

thank you so much! oh yeah i got the whole ec and cs down. i started as early as 9th grade. thank you!

Don't listen to thethoughtprocess, saying a 1520 isn't that good is an absolutely stupid comment. You should be proud, and good luck with college admissions, i bet you will gain admission to at least one of those schools.

if you have a 1520 those aren't match schools. its not a great score relative to the kids who get in. Its an AWESOME score comapred to everyone else. So yeah, my comment wasn't stupid. I definetley said it was competitive.

Its Above Average For All Of Those Schools!!!

I think what thethoughprocess is trying to say is that Georgetown, Stanford, Brown, Duke, and Cornell are reaches for almost everyone. I think the OP has a pretty good shot at all those schools though.
