Does grading scale matter?

I'm from Loudoun County, it's in Northern Virginia, and we have the hardest grading scale in the U.S. ok maybe its slightly exaggerating but i heard ours is like the 1st or 2nd hardest in the U.S

98-100 = A+ = 4.0
93-97 = A = 4.0
90-92 = B+ = 3.3
85-89 = B = 3.0
82-84 = C+ = 2.3
77-81 = C = 2.0

....which accounts for my pitiful weighted GPA of 3.55...:(

Do colleges keep that in mind when they make their decision? I applied ED to NYU and my GPA has been the source of constant worry

mines actually harder in warren nj

99-100 A+
95-98 A
93-94 A-
91-92 B+
88-90 B
86-87 B-
84-85 C+
80-83 C
78-79 C-

but i think they may consider it however they want to see that you strived for the A whatever it may be at your school

That's a standard GPA scale for high schools

92% is a B+?

that's an A in my school. i guess ur school is pretty hard

trader, post the respective gpa points for each of those letter categories.

namkim, it is pretty hard. lol.

i heard the normal scale is
90-100 = A
80- 90 = B
70- 80 = C

keep in mind those are just approximations, but you get the point.

our school doesnt report gpa (they keep it a secret until after the first semester of our senior year) and i think they use a 100 point scale anyway but im not sure. i know honors are weighted 1.06 and ap 1.08 though...it ****es me off that they dont rank/gpa us though

"i know honors are weighted 1.06 and ap 1.08 though..."

wow, thats total bs. really. we get .7 for AP classes, and youre REQUIRED to take the exams

honors, we don't get anything. :(

our teachers also dont recommend us taking the ap. out of out 500-600 juniors and seniors, only about 3-4 take ap exams. its sad. they tell us that we get college credit anyway and they do barely anything to prepare those who want to take exams.

and do you mean .07 or .7, because .7, holy crap thats a lot. thats like 100=170, i would be in heaven

"and do you mean .07 or .7, because .7, holy crap thats a lot. thats like 100=170, i would be in heaven"

sorry i misunderstood your earlier statement :)

its .7, but from what ive heard, its standard?

"our teachers also dont recommend us taking the ap. out of out 500-600 juniors and seniors, only about 3-4 take ap exams. its sad. they tell us that we get college credit anyway and they do barely anything to prepare those who want to take exams."

some faculty you have...

AP exams are great, you basically know whether or not you'll do well in them. just take ones that you know youll do well on. but i have to take every exam...crappy.

yeah i plan on doing a little additional studying with a book for the ap exams. they aren't really bad teachers (not most of them anyways) but they are bad in the aspect that they dont teach to the ap exams. some are also bad in the way my spanish teacher, instead of teaching us spanish, complains about "the guy she went on a date with last night that still lives with his mom at age 28" and the "facial microdermabration she is going for this weekend" and fashion. you could say shes not too good.

but just to clarify. in an ap, a 100 would be weighted to 108 (basically add 8 percent is what i meant)

the 100 point grading scale is still a mystery to me.

<3 the 4.0 grading scale ^_^

the schools in US need to freaking conform

"the schools in US need to freaking conform"

true.

i have had no experience with the 4 pointer but i think 100 point is a little more accurate in comparing individuals in the school but id have to have some 4 pt experience.

I think my school's gpa system is pretty hard. I have a 96 average but a 3.6 gpa.

we just use the 100 pt system but the weighting system is terrible, with the same weight (+10 points) for all honors/AP/IB classes

my school has teh same scale...that is not uncommon at all

it's not remarkable on a national scale at all
