I'm applying EA and am wondering if Harvard will see my 1st quarter grades before making their decision. They will not be on my transcript to be sent, but is it common for high schools to send in 1st quarter grades after they become available?

It depends on your school. Some schools send it in, some don't. Some let you request. If you get really awesome grades in cool classes, you might want to make sure those get in. One note, however, I didn't send in mine last year. The week before EA decisions came out, my guidance counselor told me that Harvard called him up and requested he fax them my first quarter grades. I got in early. So especially if you think you have a good but not determined chance of getting into Harvard, make sure you keep those grades up.

Thanks for the info. I am a bit concerned because in prior years I got all A's, but this year I have two unreasonable teachers (e.g. the BC Calc teacher is not giving a single person an A at this point).

Could two B+'s 1st quarter hurt my chances?

There is no way to put the 1st quarter grades on the application. What does your school put on its transcripts? My school only puts semester grades which Harvard wouldn't see unless you do get accepted. A while after someone is accepted the midyear report is due with 1st semester grades. It is usually due in February

Like someone said earlier, some schools do, some don't. Mine does. Greeeeeeeeeeeeeeat.

Well, I had two B+'s on my first quarter grade report :) So don't worry about it. Though in my case I think they only wanted to see my A- English grade, given my B in junior year. That part is speculation, however.
