Does having a standard class hurt you?

I took one standard class freshman year (world lit.), but got the highest average in the class and won an award for it.

English has never been my strong point but I'm working on it and have an A- average in honors right now with a pretty bad teacher and also hoping to go into AP next year (with probably the best ELA teacher in the school).

Even though I'm only a sophomore, I'm really interested in NESCAC schools and some others like Colgate, Union, or Skidmore. I'm just worried that they'll see the CP or standard label and then move on.

Is there an honors world lit at your school?

Regardless, no they won’t “see the CP or standard label and then move on.”

Yes there is, forgot to mention that.

You will absolutely not get passed over because of one college prep course in ninth grade. In general, you should always take the most challenging courseload available to you, which you are now doing. I wouldn’t recommend taking any more, but that shouldn’t be fatal.

BTW, love Dispatch. Nice taste in music (and schools)

I’d add, consider what you’ve done. People all over CC talk about an upward trend in their GPAs; you’ve got an upward trend in rigor.

Not a problem. If you’ve got nothing better than this to worry about, you’ve got a pretty good life for yourself!

NulliSecundus - Thanks for the advice and yeah, Dispatch is one of my personal favorites.
Sikorsky - Don’t worry, I’m sure I’ll find some better things hahah.

Dispatch, you’re A-ok. I’ve taken a couple level 1 classes (level below honors/AP) myself and got into a top school (Reed College) just fine :)
