does higher SAT offset GPA? (UC davis related)

I was browsing UCD's website, and saw statstics of incoming freshman: http://admissions.ucdavis.edu/admissions/fr_exceeding_eligibility.cfm
It says the mean gpa of UCD is 3.89. Now im about 3.0 (3.2-3.3 if its UC GPA)

But my SAT's are a good 400 points higher than Davis' SAT, unless that was out of 1600. The first time i took it (gonna retake in Nov.) i got a 1680. It says Fall 2005, so I'd assume its the new one, but can anyone confirm? I'm gonna apply there, but i want to know if i have a fighting chance of getting in.

SAT I Scores of Admitted Freshmen Fall 2005

it's out of 1600, not 2400

so 1680 would be below the average

damn, i was afraid of that. Wasnt the SAT I phased out like 3 years or so ago? If so, why are they still using SAT scores outta 1600?

Last year was the first year that the new SAT I was used. And even then, many applicants took the old SATs and submitted them to private universities that mostly accepted these scores. So the "1600" format has been in use for a long time in reporting statistics and it takes a while to change.

http://www.ucop.edu/news/factsheets/2006/freshman_admit_profile_2006.pdf

So as you can see, on average the SAT score for UC Davis admits fall 2006 is 1825, while the GPA is 3.84. (wonder why all the campuses took a dip in stats last year?)

So, it doesn't look like you have a "fighting chance." Sorry. If you really want to you can still apply, as 50% of admits did get lower stats, but your chances are slim.

yeah. i guess not. Any other UC's i would have a realistic chance of getting in?

I think Merced takes everyone who meets UC minimums and Riverside comes close.

you are pretty much guaranteed in UC riverside/merced as a california resident
