does it hurt you to ask for your decision early?

I was accepted to Wellesley and have a deposit deadline of May 15. I know I can call Georgetown, Harvard and Barnard and ask them if they can notify me before then if I fax them a copy of my accpetance letter. I was wondering if anyone knew if adcoms liked or disliked this kind of thing. Will they feel like it's me pressuring them? Will they wonder if I would be still weighing thier school with Wellesley even if I got in? Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks!

I dont think they would mind if they normally send out decisions on/after/slightly before May 15.

I'm worried about this too...

It never hurts to ask since these are real obligations/commitments that you might need to make. Keep in mind that if you intend to request an early decision, the request should be issued well in advance. Also, I highly doubt that the Harvard and Georgetown decisions will reach you by the 15th. Georgetown actually started mailing their decisions before the 15th, with letters still arriving long after the official decision-date. My acceptance came long after the 15th, if I remember correctly.

to be honest w. u, i don't think it helps at all

if they are evaluating u before anyone else without seeing the applicant pool, 2 things can happen

u will be admitted w. flying colors or u will be rejected so quickly u have no idea

i would say, only do this, if u know that your an outstanding applicant

early reviews for borderlines will often end up in rejections, sorry to say

nooo, that's horrible!

yeah, i agree with bball's comment also.

so put down a deposit for wellesley just to be safe? bah. i just returned from visiting and didn't fall in love as i hoped i would. definetly better than groovy UV, though. thanks for the advice, errbody

Asking for a decision early does not hurt at all. Several students did this last year, and were accepted. I would personally want the admissions committee to analyze my application in greater detail. It would help to make them dwell on my merits. Think positively!

For Shaganov,

This decision is not one over which you can vacillate; if you want a forced decision, you need notify as soon as possible the schools from which you want that decision, otherwise you will make them angry when they make that forced decision, thus hurting your chances, or they will simply refuse to make one.

OK, I am going to fax over my acceptance letter from Wellelsey tomorrow. Another aspect to this question-- do you think that getting into Wellesley will make them look at my application more favorably because of the caliber of school that Wellesley is? I was planning on attatching a sheet that said Georgetown was my first choice and I would attend if offered admission.
Nspeds, thanks for the help.

Good idea.

I hope you asked an admissions officer whether you could have a forced decision; they will be rather nonplussed by the sudden fax, and also somewhat exasperated.

Good luck : )
