...join a whole bunch of clubs and stuff junior year? I started out high school very depressed, which basically blew my freshman year, and this year, I've gotten more involved, but plays and stupid high school boys have blown this year too. Next year, I plan on joining Model UN, Thespian Honor Society, Philosophy Club, and maybe something else. Will this look like a ploy for college? Because it's not. I've been working to get into THS for the past 2 years, and I've just never gotten around to joining MUN and Philosophy Club.

As long as you are sure that you can handle doing that many things, go for it!

You will probably be well advised to write one of your essays about getting over your depression, and then you can throw in joining clubs and being able to take part in normal high school life as part of your proof of your success.

You may not mean for it to be, but the fact is, colleges might see this as you just trying to pad your resume. Maybe you could write your essay about you depression, someway to explain it.

Hmm...I wouldn't worry too much...I'd BS it into something like, "I really got into plays my sophomore year and I understood how fun school activities could be-something I hadn't known freshman year. By that time, however, it was too late to join MUN and Philosophy Club-which I became very active in during my junior year." You could also spin it that you "want to put 100% into whatever you do-and that you'd rather give, for example, a play all of your energy, than shortchanging another activity at the same time."

id say def put it in ur essay--thats the stuff they want to know, to explain what might be "wrong" w/ur app
