Hello, I am debating between going to Nevada State College and University of Nevada Las Vegas. The degree I am getting is communication with a minor in psychology. I was wondering if there really is a matter of what college you go to. I would be better off going and getting my bachelors at Nevada State, a smaller college, closer to home and cheaper. And I might in the future after, think about getting a masters degree, out of state (a university in Washington State or Florida). Thanks.
For communications, what sort of communications do you mean? If you wanted to get into media (e.g., TV), I would look at what the TV studios/radio stations/etc are at both colleges.
If you want to go to grad school, you need to do research and get good grades. If you get involved that should not be difficult.
It could. Price certainly can matter. You usually have to pay for a Master’s and if you borrow it’s even more you owe if you borrowed for your Bachelors as well
Some schools have excellent programs for certain disciplines that make it head and shoulders above other schools. I’m not familiar enough with the two schools and that program to say for sure, but it’s general enough that so don’t think it matters.
Hi, Las Vegas native here! If you’re between NV State and UNLV, I think really the only major difference is the price. Whatever is most affordable to you is the one you should pick - you’ll thank yourself later, when you have less debt to worry about. That being said, both are great options should you decide to make connections and take advantage of every opportunity you can. I have plenty of friends at UNLV who are doing great things (internships at NASA, archeological research in Belize, paid work as engineers, etc.) simply because they reached out. It really doesn’t matter what college you go to, as long as you put in the work and take advantage of every opportunity you can, and Las Vegas, fortunately, is a growing city with great job markets!
Thanks so much for the advice. Yes NSC would be much cheaper for me, because they are also giving me a $750 grant per semester, while UNLV isnt giving me anything, coming from CSN with a 3.95 GPA.
