Does Kenyon Defer International Students Asking For Aid During Early Decision?

HI
I AM AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT WHO NEEDS A LOT OF AID AND IS LOOKING TO APPLY TO KENYON EARLY DECISION. I NEED A LOT OF FINANCIAL AID AS I CAN ONLY PAY AROUND USD 9000 PER YEAR
I HEARD THAT KENYON DEFERS MANY STUDENTS, ESPECIALLY INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS THAT REQUIRE SUCH AMOUNT OF AID. IS IT TRUE

Yes. Kenyon looks at an applicants need as a factor during admissions.

From Kenyon website:

“Since Kenyon is not need-blind in the admission of non-U.S. citizens, financial need may be a factor in the evaluation process for admission”

@svlab112 I was waitlisted last year. I couldn’t visit because I am an international student living very far from the US. This year, I am on a gap year. Would it be a good idea to apply early decision this year, considering the fact that I was waitlisted last year and also due to the fact that their ED 1 acceptance rate is over 60 %.

You can certainly apply again. It will be important to show that as a result of your gap year, you are a better candidate this year than last. Otherwise, odds are you will get the same result.

Applying ED shows it is your first choice, so if it is, go for it. It is a good way to convey that. And you understand that you can apply ED only to Kenyon and if accepted and the aid works, you have to go there, right?

As for the acceptance rates, it will not be much easier for you although it may help a little bit. Don’t be mislead. Most of those students in the ED round are recruited athletes who were already screened. The students they take through programs like Questbridge are in there. Many legacies apply ED. And it is generally a stronger pool – students who don’t have a chance generally don’t waste their ED shot where they have no real chance. So YOUR odds will not change much.
