Does Maryland recalculate GPA’s like Florida and Georgia do? and if so how is it done? and for Early action what criteria do they use? just the numbers or holistic?
I don’t know if Maryland re-calculates an applicant’s gpa for evaluation. Maryland states on its website that they use a holistic approach, consisting of 26 factors to assess its applicants (in the priority and regular rounds).
@tgl2023 then how does Maryland compare kids in schools/states that have many different grading scales? some on 4.0 some 5.0 some 8.0 and some use percentages.
By the 26 factors listed on their website.
@jhmoney - This is one of those things that UMD does not make public. They’ve been doing admissions evaluations for a long time and they have a method for dealing with various grading scales.
@SoofDad so here is my question… when schools publicize their freshmen admitted class they reference SAT/ACT and a gpa… that GPA is the recalculated gpa that Maryland comes up with… I can’t imagine its not public? how would one know if they are even in the game to apply to the school? yes I understand holistic… UF,FSU. Georgia, etc all do the holistic approach. but they explain how to figure out the GPA that they publicize… How would someone know to apply to Maryland if they do not know what the average student applies with to get in
91% of students have a 3.75 GPA or higher according to UMD’s common data set:
https://irpa.umd.edu/InstitutionalData/cds.html
I would assume that’s an UW GPA.
FWIW, most schools don’t publish if or how they recalculate GPA.
