We are in-state and my son really wants to go there. He was invited to Maryland Marquee Day, and I really think he should go, but he says he's already shown enough interest (he has spent many weeks there, for both camp and credit classes, and he did attend functions to learn about different things). I went with my older son, and I thought it was a pretty well put together day, and since this is his number 1 choice, anything he can do to increase his chances is a good idea. I'd like to know if they track things like this and consider them at all during the admissions process.
Thanks

I doubt that they put much weight in them…UMD is pretty numbers-oriented for general acceptance in terms of grades in h.s. and SAT/ACT grades. Then the e/c’s and college app questions and recommendations are looked at a lot for special programs/merit aid. He should include mention of the things he’s attended on campus that were significant in his app. If there is anything at Marquee Day that would be additional information, or if he could schedule time specifically with someone in the department he’s interested in during that visit, then it would be worthwhile for him to attend. But just going for the sake of “showing interest” probably isn’t necessary.
