Does Math Level I look worse than Level II on a transcript?

Hi everyone,

I got a 680 on Math Level 1: not high by CC standards, but as an above average student I'm VERY pleased with my score.

However, one question has been on my mind for a while: does it look worse to take level I than level II? I know it covers less topics, but would colleges look down on someone taking 1 over 2?

The way I thought of it, the 'easiness' of math 1 is balanced out by a harsh curve, and the difficulty of math 2 is balanced out by a phenomenal curve. thus, i would figure them to be around the same prestige-wise...but then again, I'm taking a lower level! Ahh, I don't know.

What will good (not elite, i.e. Harvard) colleges think of it?

Thanks!

The simple answer is…yes. =</p>

If you’re planning to attend a school that doesn’t require SAT IIs, they may be perfectly content with a Math I, but more prestigious schools will expect you to have mastered algebra, and therefore would prefer a Math II. I’m not even sure if they really consider the Math I a suitable SAT II. If you are prepared for the Math II, I would definitely take it, but otherwise just take what you’ve got and see where it gets you. Good Luck!

ivies like harvard will definitely look at a math lvl 2 much more favorably than level 1. i’m glad that you’re proud of your score but it’s very easy to get 800 (or a really good grade) on math level 2 because the kids who generally take the exam are smart …

Most places like Level 2 better, but they all accept Level One.

Congrats on the score btw, it is really good by my standards! =)

Damm these crazy 790 retaking kids :)

The Penn website specifically says that Wharton strongly recommends a math subject test and has no preference between the two levels. And if Wharton doesn’t care, I doubt most other schools care.
