Will it look bad if I take Math Level 1 instead of 2?

Aight I but the PR Math book cuz i wasn't sure if i should take the math level 1 or 2 and after looking through the book it seems like i'm gonna have my hands full just studying for Level 1. So, will it look bad to schools if i take Level 1 instead of level 2 especially considering that i have already taken trig and a semester of pre cal?

Also I got a 650 on the math section for SAT I, i dont know if that helps with anything but i figured i should mention it. i heard that you should take math level 2 only if you scored over 700 on math section for SAT I, so I guess I should take the Math Level I right?

i wish they had a reading subject test cuz i got a 730 on that section on SAT I lol

There exists a Literature test inside the SAT II system. It won't look bad unless the college to which you are applying requires SAT II Math IIC. Taking Math I is perfectly fine if those are all the skills you have. Of course, if you are not a junior, then I would say wait another year or more so that you could attempt the Math IIC.

well, i am a junior (i didn't know that people started thinking about college so far ahead of time that they bothered taking SAT II's before junior year, lol)... but anyways i think im gonna take Math Level I this year and if i have time left over next year i can take level 2 so in case i bomb level 2 i can still show my math isn't absolutely horrendous with my level 1 score...

The prob. with level 1 is that you can get a few wrong and do really bad, it happened to my friend. with level 2 you can get like 6 wrong and still get an 800. I think you should wait until you learn stuff that is there in level 2

the problem is that i don't have a lot of time left to learn the stuff that is in the level 2 i'm already a junior... i mean if i score over a 700 on math level 1 will that not look as good as scoring over 700 on math level 2?

^ What class are you taking right now?

and yeah... naturally, scoring higher on a HARDER test is better then scorer the same on an easier test, right? (although IMO, iic isn't that much difficult...)

Right now I'm in Pre-Cal 2. My school counts Trig as Pre-Cal 1. However, after Pre-cal 2 comes another semester of pre-cal called Pre-Cal 3. So, basically if I were to take the Math Level 2 exam I would have to go in with just Trig and less than a semester of Pre-Cal completed.

I think I should also mention that math is one of my weaker subjects (that and Latin class). I can only pull off B's in math and foreign language whereas I usually get A's in everything else.

WHOA! I checked up on the SAT II Lit that someone mentioned earlier in this thread and that ish is easy. I just answered the sample questions on collegeboard.com and got 8/10 right and the 2 i got wrong were because I wasn't in "test mode" yet. I think I might take the Lit. one as well seems like it should be a prett easy 700+, hopefully.

lol lit is actually pretty hard

also, i mentioned i scored a 650 on the math section of the SAT I, does that mean i should be able to score about the same on the math level 1?

Yeah- don't go by the CB's questions on their website. The actual test is nothing like that.

CB's online questions are EASY...don't trust them

The level one test if fine, as long as it is accepted by the schools you are interested in (the UC system for example will only accept the Math II test).

Not verbally declared, but the Ivies expect you to take Math IIC. I know people are going to tell you that they don't require you to, and that the three tests are up to you, but in reality they don't require it because it is expected you'll take the hardest stuff offered.

well i'm not really looking at the ivies... i'm looking more so at schools like VA Tech, Boston Uni., Syracuse and more in that range. However, my "reach" schools are UVA and Case Western Reserve... so how does that affect which test I should take?

also other colleges considering: Drexel, Rutgers, and I think thats it for the moment lol

For most of those schools it won't really affect your application too much if you take level one instead of 2. Only the hyper-competitive or engineering schools require level 2 usually.

I have a question , if I took about one month of Precal over the summer and started Calculas AB during the whole school year is it possible to do well on the SAT Math IIC???

Of course; I would suggest taking a practice test just to be sure, but Calculus is generally harder than Precalc.

Please i want to know if it will be bad if i take both the math level1 and level 2.Because i dont like chemistry and i can do verry well in the maths and physics. Please advise me if this is bad...But i will not love to take the chemistry.
